You knew only one Mike in town, Michael Rodgers… who had made it his mission in life to make you and Simon as miserable as possible. Why would he be coming over.
You look at your phone’s contacts and notice everyone’s last names are different.
On a hunch, you start searching the internet. Some things are still there, the BBC, Wikipedia, TV Tropes. But then you start noticing the major changes. Every woman has short hair, no makeup and are wearing what you d consider men’s clothes. Men on the other hand… not one seems to be wearing pants. It’s skirts and dresses as far as the eye can see.
You head to several porn video sites, just out of sheer curiosity. Being a gay man, you’d left then all on the gay tab. But now each is on the straight tap, with dozens of videos of men… but it situations that seemed… lesbian.
You look at the other tabs. The gay tab is full of muscle jacked women. The trans tab… looks almost like how your fading memories of the old world were.
You look at a world map and it seems everything is where it should be.
But many names don’t line up. “Washington DC”, the nearest big city to you, is intead called “Hastings City, DG”
You look it up. “Angelica Hastings, the mother of our country” it would seem the events of history played out for the most part, just with different people playing the roles. The US still came into existence in 1776, for example, through a revolutionary war, with General Hastings in command of the… Georgian Army?
United States of Georgia…?
More internet searching as your drink your coffee. It seems in this world, England discovered the New World in 1492 instead of the Spanish, landing in what you remember as Florida. Instead of Christopher Columbus, it was an English captain, Gewdolyn Woods. The DG stands for “District of Gewsland”
Upon landing, Woods named it after… Queen George, England’s reigning monarch.
