Chapter 21 by Friedman Friedman

Barricade the room

"We need to barricade this room. They'll know we're here and we can't afford to move around." Jol said.

"Do you think there will be backup?" Kira replied.

"I hope so. But right now, we're alone."

The words caused Kira's heart to sink, but Jol looked around. He knew if a professional **** team of Black Daggers wanted to kill the two, they would do so eventually, but he could delay them. His first move was to push the couch towards the front door, barricading it. A strong enough explosive charge could still breach through, but it'd buy them some time.

With the couch in place, Jol set a Stinger between the couch pillows in case one of the attackers attempted to climb over the couch. He set another above the couch, attaching it to the bottom of a wine bottle which was taped above the doorframe and connected to the couch by a string. When the couch was pushed, the bottle would fall, in theory killing anyone who went through the doorway.

Next, he led Kira to the bedroom, similar to the one she'd spent last night. Jol moved to rip the sheets off the bed, before pulling out the silver marker he'd been using in the armory to draw a V with an i in the middle of the point, a symbol used by Raiders to indicate VIPs during planning phases. Once done, he headed to the balcony and ties the bedsheet to the railing. Before going back to Kira, he went to the bathroom and smashed the mirror and pocketed a shard. The fragmented mirror shard would allow him to peer around corners without exposing himself to those who are hunting him.

He then went back to Kira, who said. "So what now?"

"Only thing we can do is wait." Jol said as he grabbed his Pneumatic Baton.

Kira sighed. "You probably know why I was here, don't you?"

"It's not my business."

The coldness of Jol's tone brought little comfort. Deep down she knew he probably saw her as a whore who'd given her body to a bunch of foreigners who'd just tried to kill the two of them. Not that it seemed to bother Jol, who seemed more focused on survival more than anything else. He then grabbed a can of Miner's Respite and cut the bottom off. The hollowed can would end up taped to the disk of the Baton. This gave him a place to stick his remaining Stingers, which would be launched upon activating the piston of the baton. It wasn't much, but it was all that stood between the attackers and the Princess' safety.
