Chapter 2 by mizuryu mizuryu

After Rex gives her the rundown, how does the first round go?

Background notes

So, a few things for anybody who cares:

Firstly, you might be wondering why I picked Pazaak instead of the more 'modern' Sabacc that we've heard of. Well, I have 2 reasons for this.

1. I thought it would be a neat twist to have this connected to effectively a 'historical' game for the cast.

2. I don't know how to play Sabacc.

Yeah, I'll be frank, the second reason was WAAAY more weighty than the first. Pazaak is easy enough to understand and I don't wanna spend an hour learning a game that I'll never play.

Now for the adjustments to make it fit the group size since I'm mainly basing this off the KOTOR version of Pazaak that I have actually played and that was more of a one-to-one thing which feels kinda boring to me:

This will be a multiplayer 'variant' of Pazaak

As many people as 8 people at once can play, so long as they've got a Pazaak side-deck.

Most of the rules remain the same.

Each match consists of multiple rounds, and each round, you can either win, draw, or lose. If you win 3 rounds, you win the match and collect your winnings. If lose 3 rounds, you're eliminated from the match, even if the match is still going. If you draw, other people can still lose, but nobody 'wins' the round. If you're the only person left after everyone has been eliminated, even if you've only won one round, you win the match.

Also, for anybody who wants to get an idea of how much money is thrown around, I'm setting a credit to be about $5.

As for how 'folding' works. If somebody raises and you are either unwilling or unable to call, you cannot put a card down and have to stand with whatever number you have at the time. This means, that it is, in fact, possible to win a round despite folding if everyone else goes Bust or stands below your number.

OH, And one final thing: Ahsoka is aged up to being of legal age in this story, both for reasons of avoiding being a creeper and because Lore-be-damned, I refuse to believe that the Jedi Order was dumb enough to make Middle School-Aged Sapients commanders of a fucking army. This is not an emotional control or spiritual issue, hell, it's not even predicated on the morality of child soldiers. It's based on the fact that if we assume similar effects of puberty and aging on all Sapients, then that is the age that is least able to make sound decisions because their brains are just beginning a several year update-and-reboot cycle switching them from 'trust the big people to keep me from being eaten' to 'I wanna go out and get stuff done myself,' and unfortunately, the programming for 'what can I REASONABLY accomplish myself' comes dead last.

What's next?
