Chapter 27 by anxietycatalyst anxietycatalyst

What happens next?

Back to the city

"I can't believe you talked me into this," Yang mumbled, her voice muffled by her mask. She wore a mask meant to look like a Nevermore's head.

"Hey, you agreed to this," Ruby said, her face covered by a helmet worn by some sci-fi character that Ruby loved. "You weren't 'talked into' anything."

Yang rolled her eyes in response, which was useless since no one could see them. The four members of team RWBY stood in one of the automated taxis that serviced Vale, each of them wearing a mask and nothing else. After a few outings around the academy, Weiss suggested the four of them go into the city, as she and Blake had not long before. Before anyone could respond, Ruby quickly suggested they make a game out of it. Important to note, though, that this was not what she was hiding in her notebook. That still remained a secret to all but Ruby herself.

The rules were simple. The four of them had broken off into pairs. Ruby with Weiss, and Blake with Yang. Each pair had come here earlier that day and hidden a key to their dorm room somewhere in the city for the other pair to find. Once a pair had their key, they were to return to the dorm, going inside and waiting for the others to return. Whoever got back first would then give a challenge to the other pair, and they had to perform it, without question. However, they all agreed beforehand that the challenges couldn't be anything gross or life-threatening. Anything else was fair game, though.

At the time, it sounded fun and exciting. But now that she was actually on the taxi, approaching the city with nothing but a cheap rubber mask to hide her identity, Yang could feel the dread building in her stomach. However, she knew she couldn't back out now. Ruby was right, she had agreed to this. Plus, it wouldn't be fair to Blake to leave her without a partner in all of this, forcing her to walk through the city naked and alone.

Much sooner than Yang would've liked, she felt the taxi come to a stop, the doors opening and announcing their arrival in downtown Vale. With great effort, she **** her legs to start walking, leaving the relative safety provided by the walls of the taxi.

The four women stepped out of the platform and onto the streets of Vale, the air blissfully warm tonight, despite it being October.

"Alright," Ruby said, looking at her competition and nodding. "Good luck, everyone! May the best team win."

With that, both teams went off in opposite directions, ready to begin the search.
