Who else is having 'problems'?
Back to the back
So far, the customers had been a pleasant surprise. Not their behavior - that hadn't been either exceptionally good or exceptionally bad, at least so far - but their many stacks of donations had been carefully packed and arranged, not a single box unreasonably heavy, and each stack carefully organized with the lightest packages at the top and the heaviest at the bottom. Far more forethought than most customers ever even approached.
Accordingly, Kady was in a remarkably good mood when she finished the first van and turned back to face the lead blonde, who was looking at her expectantly.
"You need something?"
"Ah, yes," the woman gave a small nod. "Our receipt, please."
Kady blinked, and hoped this wasn't going where she was afraid it was going. "Your- uh. We don't do that."
The customer's eyes widened. "What? How are we supposed to be compensated for our donations then?"
Kady's heart sank all the way. And this had been going so well so far, too... Nevertheless, she tried to keep her voice sympathetic as she answered. "That's not how donating works, here or basically anywhere else. You don't get compensation - at least, not material compensation. That's why it's called charity, because it's something you do out of the goodness of your heart."
The leader turned red, while behind her the other five customers whispered back and forth to each other in scandalized tones.
"Is that official store policy?" The woman's follow-up question was a full decibel louder than anything she'd said previously, but Kady had heard far worse and more intimidating, over the years, and the black girl simply raised her own voice to match.
"Yes, ma'am, it is. That's how every thrift store I've ever been to works, including every one of this company's locations. I'm sure there are places out there that do exchanges for donations, but they wouldn't be called thrift stores, they'd be something else."
Without turning around, Kady heard the door open and close, and a moment later Melanie arrived at her side, making several of the blondes' eyes widen. The grandmotherly employee's face was lined with age, and she kept her gray hair in a tight bun, but she had the energy - and the tits - of a woman half her age or younger. Each of the senior employee's breasts was more than twice the size of her head, the simple white blouse she wore doing nothing to conceal their vastness.
"Is there a problem out here, ladies?" Melanie's voice was firm, her hands at her hips. Three of the five background customers were gawking, one even drooling. The leader's attention was certainly drawn to Melanie's chest as well, but she powered on through the distraction.
"That depends. Are you also going to tell us that we'll receive no compensation for everything we came to donate?"
"Not at all." Melanie smiled, kind but unyielding. "When customers make donations, they receive the joy of knowing their donations will make their way to help others, making the world a better place."
The lead blonde took a step forward, her hands balling into fists. "And if we decide that isn't good enough compensation?"
Kady bared her teeth. "I assure you, we'd be more than happy to load your donations back into your vehicles for you if you've changed your mind about making those donations."
"Like hell," spat the leader, charging like a bull as her compatriots fanned out behind her.
