Back at the Apartment

You don't remember much of the whole trip back to the apartment. Flashes here and there, but the throbing pain is enough to make you oblivious to most everything around you. Luckily, you're cognizant enough help Kathy help you get into the apartment and onto the couch. Luckily Jennifer is still at work and Allyson had left to her own job. Kathy helped you take some pain killers and you blissfully fell asleep.

A couple hours pass and Jennifer is looking down at you disapprovingly.

"Do you want to explain what you were thinking?" Jennifer asks in a scolding tone.

"I was thinking with most of my potential unlocked, I'd try to see what I can do," you honestly answer. Though the pain is down to a low throb, you're not in the best condition to make up any excuses.

"And what did you learn?" Jennifer asks, as if leading into a lecture. You're pretty certain of what answer she wants... It's just not the one she's going to get.

"He's not in the area for me... Or at least he's here not only for me," you reply. "Explains how he got down here to investigate so quickly. He was already in the area."

Jennifer looks less than impressed with the answer. "For someone who doesn't want involved with the Justice ****, you're not exactly keeping a low profile."

"Trust me, I'm more aware of how badly I messed up than you are- so kindly spare me the lecture," you shoot back, trying to block Jennifer's presence from your own awareness.

It's not working. Not even slightly.

"Didn't you also mention that the last person you used those mind powers on like that was put into a coma?" Jennifer continued. "Putting superheroes in comas is a quick way of getting your ass branded a super villain!"

"I know, damn it!" you snap. "Fuck do I know... Now please do me a favor and shut the hell up!" You grab your head to stave off the throbbing in your temples.

"Asshole..." Jennifer stomps away muttering under her breath.

"You know shes's only concerned for you," Allyson points out reasonably.

"I know. And generally I would appreciate it, but not when my head feels like it's been split open with an axe," you tell her.

"What happened?" she asked.

"I took a peak inside his mind and got trapped on the proverbial freeway," you tell her. "Gotta crawl before you can walk... Or full on sprint in this case."

"Kathy said that it was like he sensed you trying to get into his head," Allyson informed you.

"He might have," you acknowledge. "He mind was moving way to fast to really immerse myself in his thoughts or hide my presence from him. I was like a bug on a windshield."

"Ouch," Allyson sympathized. "So did you learn your lesson?"

"Yeah... Practice on normals like you guys before trying my hand at mind reading another meta," you answer cheekily.

Allyson looked down at you disapprovingly. "I'm pretty sure that's not the lesson you should have learned there."

"I have the powers, might as well use them," you say reasonably. "I just need to be careful who I use them on. There's no telling what might happen the next time I hit a mental brick wall like that."

"I suppose that will have to do," Allyson reluctantly relents. "For now."

"Thanks for not getting too upset about me turning your lives upside down," you tell her appreciatively.

"I dated a meta for a while last year, so I know how it goes," Allyson states. "I'm pretty sure I knew what we were getting into better than Jen did when we agreed to let you stay here for a while."

"I'm glad I'm not the only one hit with the weirdness around these parts," you say half-jokingly.

"You think your life has been turned upside down and inside out now, just wait until you join up with a superteam and have their superdrama added to yours," Allyson jokingly warns you.

You painfully smirk at her. "Thanks for the heads up."

"Don't mention it," Allyson tells you. "Oh, and dinner should be ready soon."

At the mention of food, your stomach rumbles loudly. "I'm looking forward to it."
