Chapter 3
by Nemo of Utopia
Who Are Your Fellow Gods?
Auntie Willow, Dawn, Epheba, 'Spike', Anthony Giles, and Hern. (Your Spouse May Have To Come From Another Pantheon.)
You see about you a mixed pantheon, half male and half female.
First of the members of this group is a woman who resembles a Dryad, save that she is a bit old to be a sylvan beauty of a tree spirit, being in her late-50s if you had to guess, and rather than being the spirit of an oak she clearly is of the genus commonly known as Willow trees in origin, with the long green vines from which extend many slender silvery green leaves like the blades of a knife for her hair and the generally 'willowy' build of her body, which in spite of her advanced years and saggy skin does not sport much in the way of excess fat outside a small, (honestly cute,) paunch about the belly and hips. Speaking of her sagging skin, it is bark-like in texture and a sort of silvery-greyish in color. Her eyes, however, are leaf green and hold the promise of both secrets and wonders for whoever can hold her gaze long enough to plumb their depths, which, you realize instinctively, isn't you. The fronds and tiny flowers of this Willow wave in a different breeze, if you understand my meaning...
Next, you behold a younger woman, perhaps 21 if she were the human she appears to be, and radiant, like the very sun. Just as you knew the previous woman's name to be "Auntie Willow" you recognize this one's name is "Dawn", and she draws you in with her flame red hair like a moth is drawn to a regular fire... Her hands are bathed in a blood-red, yet holy, glow, like the light of the sun just as it crests the horizon at, well, Dawn. You instinctively know she has abilities to heal the living and harm the undead with this glowing aura, a power that will make her both a great asset to your group and a natural target for your enemies, she will need protection... You also sense that she has a temper but at the same time a more classically feminine side: and that these are not separable, both just facets of the greater whole that makes up "Dawn"...
Last of the female members of your pantheon is "Epheba".
Epheba: green of skin, long in the nose, and with the teeth of a shark: is a sinister LOOKING figure, but she is far from an evil goddess. Rather you sense in her a concern for the animals of the world and the balance between them and the encroachment of 'civilization' and the sapient races. She has powers of witchcraft and a more militant version of Druidic magic, one that will answer the call of someone who, like herself, is devoted to a fairly extremist cause...
The next deity is the first of the three other gods. This one you cannot sense his name, all you get is various images of "Spike"s ...
This man has close-cropped white hair, ice blue eyes, and a face that's so pretty you just want to punch it to make him quit making everyone else look ugly... And your every instinct is screaming "DANGER!" every single second you look at him. There's something lurking below that lovely exterior, something monstrous and EVIL: you don't know what it is; but you do know you're not ready to face it, whatever it is. You're just going to have to trick it into staying hidden, for now, while you prepare for an epic showdown somewhere down the line...
And here's someone that can help with that: Anthony Giles, your resident god of knowledge and secrets. A tall and lanky individual, slight of build and obviously slightly nearsighted: Anthony never-the-less projects an aura of quiet confidence and authority. You sense in him one that would easily make himself a gathering point for the others and dispenser of both tasks and rewards, if you wish to rule the pantheon in its final form, Anthony's natural gravitas and leadership ability will be an obstacle you must overcome. Yet, it must also be remembered, that in addition to the much more famous quote, ⅔ of the Celestial Host decided, "Better to Serve in Heaven, than Reign in Hell."...
And last, we come to Hern.
With antlers on his head, skin the color of young moss, a long flowing mane of hair the color of ripe wheat, muscles that make yours and Spike's look positively punny, (and neither of you is any kind of slouch,) enough hair on his chest, arms, and legs to look like a shag carpet, and a penis that is six inches long just when flaccid, Hern is quite the manly man. Hern would be a natural partner for Epheba or Auntie Willow, except that Epheba is an opposition alignment to him, and Auntie Willow is not sexually interested in his gender. Hern, the Hunter, is the god of agriculture, nature, and the seasons: though in his previous incarnation he was born with the spring and died with the fall harvest, in this life that will not be the case due to the different rules of this Pantheon and the fact that he lacks the power of self-resurrection. From a certain perspective, this is all to the good, as it means you will not be without one of your strongest fighters all winter long, but it also means that Mr. Manly-Man here could make a legit play for leadership...
Questions To Vote On This Chapter:
1: How Do You Approach The Rest Of The Pantheon?
1a: Assertively: try to establish dominance early.
1b: Friendly: try to endear yourself to them.
1c: Cagey: let them approach you.*
*(Basically a gamble: sacrifice the initiative for possible gain in standing as the one they have to approach, a position of strength.)
2: Do you make a play for Dawn now?
2a: Move quick, before someone else does!
2b: Indicate interest, but be sure not to apply any pressure, you've just met...!
2c: A quick compliment, nothing more, courtship is a long game indeed.
2d: Stay back, play hard to get: I've got to make her come to me...!
2e: Whatever, I'm not even interested in the fiery types: I want a submissive waifu that won't talk back and is all about pleasing her man!
Onward!
