Attack

Trying to rescue causalities, especially causalities whose high screams of pleasure implied they might object to getting rescued from the sucking mud while tentacles tried to drag them down wasn?t something Joanna fancied much. Instead they?d try to kill the thing first, then grab their comrades.

Joanna?s suit sonar showed movement under the mud, something large and writhing. Hard to miss, setting her gun for maximum penetration rounds, Joanna and her team opened fire, mud splashing upwards as bullets tore through it, reaching down towards the creatures central mass.

On the sonar screen there were a series of flashes, the rounds explosives detonating, then a ripple sprayed through the mud. There was a great slurping sound and mud began to flow down into some kind of sinkhole, the beast suddenly breaking up. It must have been lying on top of the entrance to an underground cavern Joanna was too busy gaping at the horror that had emerged to worry too much about that though. The thing was massive and shapeless, a mass of flesh, mouths and tentacles, it gave a massive roar, drowing out the screams and gasps of the women now being lifted on it?s tentacles.

Joanna saw another trooper, Private Shira Van grab onto one of her stricken comrades and pull, yanking the woman away from the tentacles embrace. Several more had also been grabbed, even as others not impaled were sucked down the mudslide into the chasm bellow.

Joanna tried to stabilise herself as the mud sucked at her, firing into the massive thing as she did so. Behind her, Lopez fired an anti tank rocket, slamming into the things top section and blowing off a mass of tentacles. It gave another hissing roar and tentacles shot out from it towards the angels dragging their remaining comrades to safety.
