Attack the tower

You have very little choice in the matter, the rest of your platoon is struggling to breach the tower portal, so to the base of the wall you go. None of the phalanx's officers are visible, you remember seeing Captain Kyletes fall even before you reached the walls, but none of the other officers are around to direct you.

The closest thing to formal leadership is your squad sargent urging your fellow hopelites on as they pound away at the heavy doors that lead into the tower. The lack of officers is not really an issue, men of the army of Heliopolis fight for their shield brothers, not the so-called leaders that come and go with the changes in politics that you have never cared enough to follow.

Officers or not you know your duty. The weight of the axe in your hand gives you confidence as you reach your companions.

"Keep those damn archers from me and let me at that fucker.". A little to everyone's surprise your companions do exactly as you ask; holding their sheilds high over your head in at tight tortoise-shell formation and making enough room for you to swing the steel blade at the seasoned hardwood reinforced with heavy iron bands and studs. A war axe this fine was not meant to be missused like this you think to yourslf as your first swing bites deeply into the tough wood but it works surprisingly well. The steel blade of the war axe cuts cleanly even through the iron studs that reinforce the heavy door.

It takes just five more swings to slice through the door, with a great kick you breach the door that had stymied the rest of the squad until your arrival. With the doorway buckling they take over pushing past you and rushing into the round room that lies beyond.
