Chapter 6

Where do you decide to stake your claim?
At your cave.
You wake up bright and early in the morning, mainly because the ground is too uncomfortable for you to want to lay in. Immediately, you set to work removing any evidence of your presence, picking up the pile of sticks left over from last night's failed building attempt.
Excited to own some land of your own for once, and looking forward to sleeping in a comfortable nest instead of on the ground, the journey back to the imposing Mt. Imporne seems to pass in a flash, and soon you are circling in on the cliff face that contains your cave. The small ledge that you took off from yesterday, situated a few hundred meters up the sheer wall of stone, provides a convenient landmark to aim for - you're pretty sure this is the first time you've ever had to return to your cave, so having something obvious to navigate towards proves incredibly useful.
Upon landing, you take a sip of water from the small spring near the entrance, and then take a moment to get to know the cave a little better. It doesn't particularly deserve that title, being little more than an alcove, 6ft deep and about the same in width. Still, that will be more than enough to fit a good sized nest and store some food and supplies inside, so you suppose it'll have to do.
Seeing no reason to delay further, you take the Claimant Crystal out of your inventory and Use it. At first, nothing seems to have happened; the crystal is still sitting in the center of the cave, which looks exactly the same as before. You spin slowly around, checking to see if it did anything, until your eyes fall on a backwards wall of text floating in the cave entrance. Backing out onto the ledge allows you to read it.

Claim land?
What kind of question is that? Hitting yes causes the text to disappear and be replaced by a new set.

A third tab opens in front of you.
Please Name Character
A name, eh? That's new. You just call yourself 'you', and whenever anyone else has any need to refer to you it's normally by your description, like 'floaty guy' or 'air man'. You'd only ever been called one thing that could be described as a name - Zephyr. While foraging, you came across a tent in the middle of a clearing, and against your better judgement you decided to check it. Long story short, it turned out to be a disciple of Sucram, the god of knowledge, with the power to see the future, and she'd handed you your ass on a silver platter while screaming "You will not take my clothes, mischievous Zephyr!". You suppose she may have seen this very moment, or one in the very near future, and got the name from there. Hopefully it doesn't cause a paradox or whatever - while you've ripped tears in many kinds of fabric over the years, from cotton to silk, doing the same to the fabric of the universe is something you'd rather avoid.
With that out of the way, the text in the entrance is once again replaced.

Add resources to stockpile?
You browse the list, noting that the 'Resources' section matches perfectly what you have in your inventory, and pondering what adding a water spring to this 'stockpile' entails. 'Elemental Rift' sounds scary, but you don't have much choice if you want to sleep comfortably ever again, and you yourself are an elemental, so it can't be that bad. Actually, now that you think about it, that's probably exactly why you are getting it, because of your race. After all, if it would be here anyway, why not put it under 'Natural Features'? You hit 'Yes' once more.
This time something does change, albeit not in a good way - your water spring has disappeared. You hadn't expected putting it in a stockpile to be so literal. A quick check of your inventory reveals all of the resources you collected have also disappeared, with the exception of the stone hammer, axe and pickaxe you took from Catherine.
You notice something else different about your character sheet: a new tab has appeared alongside 'Information' and 'Inventory', this one labelled 'Fame'. Intrigued, you switch to it.
Fame: 16

Shamed a hero + 14 (Expand)
Even more interested now, you expand both points.

Seems like adventurers respawn in the same state you defeat them in. Good to know for the future - you'll have to try tying them up more often.
Below that, a heading marked 'Rewards' (which you thought was a weird title, but couldn't really think of a good replacement for) is followed by a long list of options, most of them composed of greyed-out question marks bar the very top two, the first of which is still grey but has an actual name, and the second of which both has a name and is coloured white.

Elemental Liegelord 0/10 - 10

Maybe the crystal has done something useful after all. You decide you may as well get a level of Elemental Liegelord, as you don't see anything else to spend your fame on for now. With the level purchased, more information on what it does becomes available.
Elemental Liegelord 1/10 - 20
Your innate majesty has started to sway the local monster population to your banner. Each day, there is a small chance that local air elementals or creatures attuned to the element of air will spontaneously convert to your side and ask to join you. You may also receive gifts from monsters seeking to stave off your wrath or gain your favour.
Whoa. That was... not what you were expecting. Other elementals would join you now? Just because you could build stuff? You suppose it must be a rarer ability now than before the update, but still, it can't be that important, can it? Feeling as though you've missed something, you search the main tab of your character sheet for clues.

Invite – You can invite other creatures to take up residence in your lair as mooks. Doing so successfully grants you experience, and you will gain a small amount of all the experience your mooks gain. Having sleeping quarters, food and water already available will increase your chances of a successful invite.
Microboss – When you are defeated in battle, lose accumulated progress to your next level rather than all gained experience. Spend Fame on unique bonuses to your lair, your mooks and yourself.
Natural Forager -
Fuck. What the hell have you gotten yourself into? You only wanted to get yourself a bed and go back to embarrassing pretty adventurers, not become a fucking boss!
Still, it doesn't look like you can change it now, especially if you want your spring. You could always find a lake to moisturise your currents in, but those are full of germs and other horrible stuff you didn't really want floating around inside of you if you could avoid it, a luxury you hadn't had in the past. Speaking of your spring, you should probably start looking for a way to get that back. Seeing no more tabs in your inventory, you instead try concentrating on the wall of your cave, and sure enough more text appears.
