At the game

The game was already in full swing by the time Rachel had gotten dressed, done her makeup, and finally made her way to the school. Aluminum bleachers looked out over a vast green field, where seniors in neon jerseys kicked a ball this way and that, sometimes coming close enough to the stands to elicit a wave of applause from the gathered parents. So many peaceful nuclear families, just ripe for the taking. It was practically a playground for Rachel.

She spotted her targets quickly enough. John was perched at the end of a bench near the front. Penny, her hair straightened and lips glossed, looked like she'd done a complete glow up since last night. Then there was Eve, the long-legged eighteen year old blonde who couldn't seem to go two words without sighing in irritation or impatience. Classic teen attitude.

Rachel raised an eyebrow, noting that Eve's skirt was a clear inch or two shorter than the other girls on her team. Maybe Eve had a spark of something naughty in her too, just like her parents...

She made her way over to John and Penny, plastering a wide smile to her face, as if she hadn't seen either of them so intimately only the night before.

"Hey, team McCormick!" Rachel said, waving. "How's it going?"

"Good!" Penny gave a shy wave back. I'm going to talk with the other moms. Wanna come?" She motioned up the bleachers to where a cluster of middle-aged women sat gossiping with each other.

Rachel stopped short, eyeing John, who was making a concerted effort to pretend that Rachel was entirely invisible. "Didn't know you were a soccer fan, John."

"Heh, yeah, I guess," John chuckled, then motioned to the seat next to him. "Honey, I'm sure Rachel wants to watch the game, not gossip with a bunch of women she doesn't know. Why don't you sit with me?"

There was a look in John's eyes that made Rachel absolutely feral. Still, the cute way Penny seemed to pouting now was hard to resist. Did she want to spend some time growing closer to Penny? Or was now a good time to take advantage of some alone time with John?
