Arrive 30 minutes before her shift ends

I finally make it to her work, walking into the tavern. Asher is behind the bar as usual while Emma is serving customers their food and drinks.

I find myself a spot, waiting for Emma to see me. Her eyes glance up and connect with mine. Her eyes slightly widen before she gives a small smile and starts coming over.

“Hey babe!” She greets. “What’re you doing here?”

“Got out of work just in time for your shift to end.” I smile. “How was work today?”

“It was-great!” Emma suddenly exclaims, jerking upright in surprise.

I’m about to ask if she’s alright when I suddenly hear it. A low buzzing sound. There’s a bee here! Must’ve taken Emma by surprise!

I glance around, trying to figure out where it’s coming from but I can’t locate it.

“Well, I’m glad to hear it.” I tell her, focusing on trying to find the bee. I don’t want either me or Emma to get stung.

“What would you-mmmm, like today...” Emma winces, her cheeks tinting red.

“This time I want to go with something different.” I state, looking through the menu on the table. There’s a bunch of good sounding drinks here…

“O-okay, ugh….” Emma stammers.

“What do you think of the Strawberry Sunrise?” I ask.

“I-it’s, pretty-mmm, good.” Emma quickly states. “Ah, I would-“

She suddenly goes rigid as the buzzing gets louder. The bee is even closer now! My eyes scan all around us but I can’t seem to locate where the darn thing is!

I look back at Emma and my poor girlfriend, the bee has her scared! Her legs are lightly shaking and she’s breathing heavily, but she’s staying here because she’s so dedicated to her job.

“I’ll just get the Strawberry Sunrise.” I tell her so she can get away from the bee.

“Mmmmmm, okayyy…” She breathes out as she stumbles away, the sound of the bee fading away. Hopefully it’s not following her.

All the insects, bugs, bees, and everything have been absolutely crazy recently. I really need to work on getting that bug spray.

I continue waiting for Emma to return with my drink when I realize it’s been longer than usual. I look around and I actually don’t see Emma at all. Even Asher disappeared from behind the bar.

Her shift hasn’t ended yet and it seems weird to have a break right now. She’s probably just using the restroom but I kind of have a bad feeling and I don’t know why. Maybe I should try to find her?
