Arc 4: Jack's back!

Tags: No sex, just lore.

Location: U.A Academy, Heights alliance

"Fear not! For I am here! Or is that not how the phrase goes?" I waved at everyone as I decided to spend the night for once at the U.A. academy. I noticed some faces around as everyone approached to say hi to me, so friendly as always. I sort of hated that. I glanced at Midnight as she was leaving the building for the night back to her apartment. I didn't bother waving at her or wanting to talk to her. She knew that she should be grateful since I fixed her stupid brain.

"Hey, how is everything? You have been gone for a few days. We started to think you ditched us." Denki was the first to speak to me.

"Yeah, I know. I apologize for my absence; hero work and Nemo paperwork are a bitch, ah, my bad, sorry, I shouldn't curse so much."

"It's fine; we are getting used to the way you talk."

"Yeah, I am honestly enjoying how everyone is so nice to me, but I really don't feel I deserve praise. Regardless, I am happy to see everyone here; I believe I have a lot of study work to catch up on."

"Oh yeah! Ochaco has been doing the favor of saving all the paperwork for you. If you ask me, you should talk to Aizawa as well; he looked a bit pissed as you suddenly left without warning."

"Ugh, you are right about that, but I couldn't give any warning for it, thanks... Denki, right?"

"Yeah! Still having trouble with the names."

"Highly, but you look like a nice guy." I decided to step away for a moment, waving hello to everyone, making small talk, and trying to behave normally overall before talking to Aizawa.

Location: U.A. teacher's room.

"So care to explain what happened?"

"I cannot, but I shall just say it was Nemo's hero work."

Aizawa's face changed to a small frown. "You cannot explain what happened?"

"If you have seen Nemo's way of handling documents, you have probably noticed by now that it's filled with plenty of secrecy, to the point that they hide students' quirks. Whichever mission I am sent on, I cannot share it unless it's approved, and even then, the document they release, they must review first for the safety of everyone involved, including my own person. I would be happy to let you know, however, that I was doing two things: tracking the sights of a dangerous individual and gathering information that could benefit hero agencies."

"That really doesn't say anything."

"I am happy to share any legal and released information, but my hands are tied, teacher. Sorry. That's just the Nemo way, but if you need anything from me, questions or anything that I can legally share, you may ask. If you want to know what I did you will have to ask directives back at Nemo and if they tell you that's up to them"

"I am rather worried about you not mentioning this trip before."

"I honestly thought it would take 1 day; I know it took much, much longer."

"Can I have the name of the person who sent you the mission?"

"You cannot, but not because it's illegal or anything; the school itself just sent it. You would need to call them and let them know in hopes someone admits it. But usually a whole committee must supervise the mission usually; it could be one person regardless."

"A very bureaucratic system if you ask me."

"I couldn't agree more with you, but this is important, taking into account our previous trouble. After all, one of my classmates died 3 years ago in Japan, so a lot of things have changed since then. Calling it recklessness on the part of our school, you must understand that although we are seen as heroes making school, we are closer to the police and military, so we do this very properly and very much as you said, bureaucratically, with paperwork and a lot of legal laws, but most importantly, we always push ourselves to the extra edge, as long as we are allowed to."

"Someone died?"

"Weren't you told? A student of ours well, not one, a group came here when the war was happening. They wanted to help but ended up not only hindering some of the hero work, but also one of us was killed by a villain that could've been stopped a while ago. Shigaraki's destruction affected the world, not just Japan."

"Apologies for your loss."

"It's not my loss; we weren't too close if I am honest, but I appreciated him. He was too hopeful, too nice, a little bit like Izuku if I am honest. I recall him a lot when I am out there. He wanted to be a hero, so happy and full of life. He was the leader of their unauthorized expedition to help Japan. He deserved a better ending; he wanted to help people, and that got him killed. It's quite unfair... Sorry, I actually shouldn't have mentioned that; that might get me in trouble."

"It's okay; I shall not comment on this outside the classroom."

"Thank you. Is there anything else, sir?"

"I would like it if you caught up with your studies as well."

"That I can do. I assume Ochaco has the rest of my work? I asked her the favor to do so."

"Correct, there is homework assigned in three days, but you can take a week if you prefer."

"That's nice, thank you. Also, if you need me for anything or have more questions, I am open to talk as long as it doesn't get me in trouble. Sorry if this hinders any hero work you guys have as well." I started to walk away, knowing that if he calls the directors, they could make up an excuse to make sure I didn't get in trouble, but I can also call someone like Sirli and ask her to give me permission. That sounds like a better idea. I pulled out my phone to type a quick text to her and right afterwards headed to the dorm rooms since I wanted to make a last stop. I wanted to see Ochaco after all.

"Here you go!" Ochaco handed me a big stack of papers.

"Woah, this is a lot for the short time I was gone."

"W-well, Momo also heard about you being gone and said she wanted to assist me, so not only did she help categorize everything you needed to write down in your book, but she also provided extra lessons, fonts, practice exams, related topics in case you are interested, practice exercises, and different contacts of hers, including herself, in case you have a question."

"Hm- quite a lot."

"I know, right?" I held the papers under my arm and suddenly hugged her, which surprised her. "Thanks, I also took the time to do other things while doing some hero work back there."

"Oh, what were you doing?"

"Sorry, that's classified." I smiled.

"Ooooh, like super secret spy stuff?"

"Oh no, like actually classified, as in a military document classified. I was not making a joke."

"Ah! I didn't know you operated like that."

"I don't; it's my school mostly..." I looked at her, wanting to actually get another thing out of the way. Some small thorn on my mind let's say "I also took the chance to visit a friend." That's a lie, of course. "Someone who died a long time ago when trying to help back at the war that happened in Japan; it was in our second year."

"Second? Wait- What year are you"

"Five"

"You guys take five years to graduate?! Wait, sorry, I am interrupting about your friend—That was so rude."

"No, it's okay, really. I and he weren't too close, but he has served as my moral guide on what I want to do as a hero. He came here thinking he could get some villains or bring the smallest assistance possible; it ended up with him dying and also troubling other students and heroes, but seeing his grave always makes me remember why I am doing all this: to make a world with better heroes and no villains."

"... I understand; I also had a fr- person- that was close to me in a way that died back then... That's actually what I went to do, visit the 'friend' I was visiting."

"Oh—oh crap!" I acted surprised. "And here I was joking about it; I am the one who is sorry!"

"No no! I keep it hidden. I actually hide it from others. I like to leave her a tribute once in a while, something to remember her, something that I promised her."

"... Is it something that hurts you by any chance? Last time I saw you, you were looking very lost in thought but also a bit pale, weak in a way, sad, uhm- I am not sure how to say it, melancholic at best?"

"Well, yes, it's a bit hurtful for me."

"But it's a good thing, right?"

"I wouldn't say it's good; it's just a promise I made to her, and I expected for things to change and stop when things do change, but I feel that nothing has happened these last few years."

"When things change?"

"I want to change how heroism is done—"

"OH! ME TOO! I have been thinking so hard about it!" I quickly interrupt her as I wanted to propose my 'idea' first. "I feel that heroism in itself, which is basically fighting villains and doing great things with their quirks, should expand to other fields, like medicine, construction, and therapy. I feel we can do so much more. My quirk is awful for fighting, and I have been so many times close to being harmed; that is just a mess... Ah, sorry, I interrupted you!"

"No, it's okay! I am actually thinking the same, but it's not so straightforward. An expansion to quirk counseling, I feel that is something that is not talked about enough nor done around frequently. I want to be able to help troubled students with their quirks so they can avoid taking paths that could lead to them being injured or even worse, but I- I am not entirely sure how I will do it."

"You need a lot of learning for that; you need information about quirks, how they are handled, and how they affect the user. It's a very ambitious dream."

"Well, your dream is similar, is it not?"

"Yes, but I have already started doing my studies, so I am at peace deep down." Ochaco's face looked different as she thought about my words, some worry growing on her. "Hey, how about we help each other with our dreams? I can hand you all the information I have gathered from quirks and other studies; I even made a small thesis last year about it, in case you are interested in it."

"I! I would like that! Yes, please!"

"... I will tell you a secret, Ochaco. I am not sure why you are doing this, but I want to get rid of villains once and for all. No more super-quirked people roaming the streets destroying everything. I want everyone to be safe and happy with their current lives, and well, this is not my secret, but rather, I will be opening a hero agency this year, an actual building, and I want to make it here, in Japan!" She looked shocked at that. "I am using my dad's money; he is a horrible person, but I will use him to build my dreams, and then once that is settled, I will start making tours all over the cities and Japan to help the troubled youth. I will make this country a better place for me, my mother, and everyone else, and from there, I shall expand worldwide. I am an ambitious person. If you ever want to help me since we share similar dreams-" I held her hand warmly, gently, in a caring way, something none of the other girls have experienced. "I would be happy if you joined me."

She blushed hearing my offer, backing up a little. "I will think about it! I actually wanted to do my own thing, even my own agency with friends."

"That's fine! I actually wanted to help boost other agencies with the only promise to promote my own agency. I also have a thousand other plans alongside that, but little steps first, right? To not overwhelm myself."

"Yeah—it's impressive you have such ambition already planned out."

"It is not that impressive; I am sure that if you had as much free time as I do back at my island, you would be able to do it. I know that Japan can be great again, but- I am just now talking just to talk, I am just being dumb ignore me. Hey! School doesn't close in 4-5 hours; want to go eat something with me? My treat for helping me with everything."

"I c-couldn't."

"Nonsense." I grabbed her by the wrist, practically forcing her with a smile and enthusiasm. This was **** and peer pressure. "What is your favorite food? We go and buy it, and you get it for free."

"Free?"

"Oh, I am rich, don't worry! Come on, just think of some food, and I will pay for it."

"A-any food?"

"Anything for you."

"W-well... I do like chocolates."

"I really mean anything."

"Th-there is a nice sushi cafe that serves some pretty nice delicious mochi that Momo bought the other day."

"Anything else?"

"Anything else? Uhm, that sounds like too much..."

"Oh, don't worry about that; just leave behind all the cares you are overthinking and fall into the simple pleasure of a great free meal."

"Well, I also like these little cakes in fish form."

"Now we are talking..."
