Apprenticeship

"I was wondering if you could train me to do magic," you say.

The wizard sips his drink pensively, "I could use a new apprentice... Have you the gift?"

"I don't know," you say. The game designers must allow players to use magic, otherwise having a magic would be completely pointless.

"Well, we will just have to find out," he says, "After initial training we'll find out just how gifted you are."

"Thank you, sir," you say bowing slightly.

"Don't call me sir. You can call me... Dennis."

You nod and he pays for your meal. Walking down the street afterwards he takes you to a small cottage outside of Morning Wood.

"It's not much but it's home," Dennis says.

When you enter you are greeted by a picturesque cabin interior. It's all one room with a wood burning stove and kitchen table.

"Not much of a Wizard's lair," you say.

"Don't let it fool you," Dennis says pointing to a stair case leading down. "I keep all the Wizard stuff down there along with the bedrooms. You'll get your own if you are magically inclined."

"I'm ready for whatever test you've got."

"Good," Dennis says tossing you a stone from the table. "That gemstone will glow if it detects magic. Revealing your magical affinity."

You stare at the clear stone in your hand a faint warmth emanating from it.
