Appreciate the moment

The moonlight glitters across the dark waters. High in the sky the full moon stares back at you, as well as a sky of glittering gems. This far away from the city, you really get to appreciate the skiy.

You roll onto your side, looking at Caoimhe. The moonlight catches in her eyes, causing them to twinkle as she stares up at the universe above you all.

“The view’s beautiful,” you say softly.

“The moonlight is very beautiful on the water, and all those stars are magnificent,” Caoimhe says in wonder.

“I wasn’t looking at the lake,” you reply.

“You’re so cheesy,” Caoimhe says, blushing in the darkness. “Can I ask you something? Something you promise you’ll answer honestly?”

“I promise I’ll be honest,” you say. “Don’t know if I’ll want to answer it. Ask away, I suppose.”

“Why are you hanging around me?”

You pause, running the question through your mind.

“I like you. You’re nice, and fun, and cute. I enjoy spending time with you. Broad reasons, sure, but that's it."

“Do you want to have sex with me? Is that all this is?” Caoimhe says. “All the guys here like sleeping around without being tied down, so is that all you’re after?”

“I mean… yeah, I want to have sex with you, but…”

“Look, you can be honest with me. That’s all I’m asking. If you want to just have sex with me right now, we can, and that’ll be it. You can go on your way and I can go on mine, and we can just be friends.”

“And if I want more than that?” you ask.

“If you want more than that, and I actually mean something to you… or you’d like me to mean something to you… I’d rather wait rather than blow my first time on my first date,” Caoimhe says. “Look, I know guys are guys. If you don’t want to go out with me and are just up for quick sex, that’s fine. I just want you to be honest with me. Do you want to date me, or do you just want a quick fling?”

Hmmmm…. on one hand, you do quite like Caoimhe, and she’d be a good girlfriend. On the other, instant gratification with sex now, plus much more sex in the future since you wouldn’t be tied down with monogamy… Time to make a choice.
