Apologize, But Stay Firm

“Sorry, but it’s just not something I find exciting for me. It’s cool that you like it and enjoy it, so have fun, but, like I said, I just shop for what I need, not for enjoyment of the process.” You say. She sighs, slightly disappointed that this trick didn’t work on you either.

”So you don’t mind if I like it and enjoy it then?” She asks, curious how you’ll respond.

“No of course I don’t mind. I like football, does that bother you?” You say nonchalantly.

“Well, no.” She says smiling a little bit relieved.

“Exactly. So you have fun doing what you like and I have fun doing what I like then.” She sighs, hopeless on convincing you at this point.

“Fine…” She relents, before working her way back around the store and finding what she wants and making her decisions.

After about another 15 minutes, she asks you your final opinion on what she got, you tell her you like it, and you get in line for the checkout.

“Hey Lucas look what they have here!” She grabs a bag of something, but you don’t immediately recognize it. “They even have your size!” She giggles, as she points at the XS sizing, probably identifying Extra Small.

“Whatever that is, I’m not an extra small anything, so it probably wouldn’t fit on me.” You say still confused. She puts the bag back where she got it from, giggling still as if you’re not supposed to take this seriously.

“They’re for your boy parts to wear when you’re doing it with a girl. They keep you from getting a girl pregnant. It was a joke.” She says smirking slightly. You shrug it off unaffected, still not completely grasping what just happened, a noticeable improvement from earlier when you would have been bright red.

The two of you check out, and you put your new stuff on.

“Ooo you look cute in your Cardinal gear. I like it.” She tells you. You smile back softly, say thanks and start heading towards Orientation.

You get to Orientation and end up sitting next to Emily but nothing really happens. It’s a pretty standard welcoming, talking about the different activities, the yearly schedule and so on. By the time that the orientation is over, it’s already about 8:30 PM and it’s about time to head to your dorm rooms.

You walk back with her to the Cardinal’s capital room, carrying on a normal small talk conversation about the school, before you have to try and decide how you want to separate. You end up just waving goodbye, saying see ya around, and retreating to your dorm room.
