Anya plans while the Scoobies talk

Meanwhile back in the high school library, Buffy-in-Willow and Willow-in-Anya were discussing quite loudly what went wrong with the whole bodyswap spell.

"You mean you had no idea that something was wrong with Anya when you hired her?" asked Buffy-in-Willow, cocking a raised eyebrow in Wesley's direction.

"Well, with all those due respect, Miss Rosenberg...." said Wesley.

"Summers, " said Buffy-in-Willow. "She's Rosenberg."

"With all due respect, Miss Summers, I'll have you know that Miss Emerson came with the most impeccable credentials," said Wesley. "She had references from quite a few influential sources."

"Really?" asked Giles. "What sources?"

"She got a reference from a Kathy Newman. Yet another from a Ben Wilkinson. Yet another from a Cecily Addams. Yet another from a Jenny Calendar. Yet another from a Bea Glory. Yet another fro--"

"Wait a minute!" said Buffy-in-Willow. "What was that last name?"

"Jenny Calendar," said Wesley. "Quite a nice lady as I recall."

"You've met her?" asked Giles.

"Of course I did," said Wesley. "Just a few weeks ago when I first hired Miss Emerson."

"And this was face to face?" asked Giles. "Not over the telephone or anything like that?"

"Of course it was face to face, Rupert," said Wesley. "What do you take me for?"

"And did you by any chance touch her or shake her hand?" asked Giles.

"Why, no," said Wesley. "I believe she had a cold or something. Anyway, you Americans are so hung up about this sexual harassment thing that I didn't think anything about it. Why do you ask?"

Nobody wanted to say anything but finally Giles said it. "Wesley, you just admitted to accepting a job recommendation from an entity that Buffy has met before. An entity that calls itself the First Evil. It loves to impersonate dead people and the fact that it gave Miss Emerson a job recommendation confirms that the girl you hired was up to no good."

"The First?" asked Wesley. "But she seemed so human."

"That's how she rolls," said Buffy-in-Willow. "Jenny Calendar has been dead for about a year. We all knew her. You apparently are the only one of us who wasn't around when she was killed so obviously you did not know. Anyway, thanks for giving me yet more reasons to have confidence in your impeccable research skills, Wesley."

"Well, with all due respect..."

"With all due respect, Wesley, you just admitted to accepting a job recommendation from one of the worst demons in the world," said Buffy-in-Willow. "That doesn't say a whole lot about your brain smarts."

"Well, in all fairness," said Wesley, "I did check with the Watcher Council before I actually hired Miss Emerson."

"And who endorsed her this time?" asked Buffy-in-Willow. "Santa Claus?"

"As a matter of fact, I got an official e-mail from one of the Council secretaries confirming the fact that Miss Emerson had a clear record," said Wesley, digging into his briefcase. "I even spoke with said secretary over the phone. Her name -- let's see here -- oh, here it is. Her name was Gwendolyn Post."

Wesley looked up from his briefcase, looked around the room and said, "What?"

Buffy-in-Willow sighed and asked Giles, "Should you tell him or should I?"
