Another note

The mood is happy on the way home, and you’re gratified to see that Emi seems to be doing better after the outing. When you pull into the parking lot, Sam says her goodbyes, hopping into her own car and heading out. You’re sad to see her go, but you know she has her own things to do.

You head inside with Emi and Lili on your arms, with Lili eager to shed the clothing she’s **** to wear when you go out. Emi is still holding your hand tightly, but the smile on her face is genuine. You open the door to your apartment, and lead them inside. As you walk in, your foot bumps against an envelope on the floor. Confused, you pick it up, as Lili bounces off to undress.

On the front is simply written “For Andy”, in plain handwriting. Emi watches as you open the envelope and pull out the paper within. In the same handwriting is a short note.

I was sorry to see what happened to you. I am a friend, and an ally. I can help you with your problem. Meet me tonight, at this address. 7 pm. You can bring your runaway if you prefer.

Below is an address, and no signature. You sigh, reading it again. “It seems like we have a decision to make.”

Emi nods. “More intrigue. Your life is turning into a spy novel.”

You chuckle. “I just wanted a simple life. I was happy with just us. I’m tempted to just ignore this.”

Emi thinks for a moment, then shakes her head. “No, I think you should go. At least find out what this is. And I want to come. If there’s any chance of getting back at…them, I want to take it.”

You sigh, and nod. “I understand that, but…what if it’s dangerous, or a trick?”

Emi shrugs. “I don’t know. But I don’t think it is. What would be the purpose? They already have us intimidated, why bother messing with us?”

You nod again. “Fair. Okay, we’ll go. But no guarantee that this is anything we want to get involved in, right?”

Emi nods. “Of course. Thank you.”

She kisses you on the cheek, and heads off to join Lili in the living room. The oblivious harpy is singing and dancing naked, cheerful as always. With a chuckle, you move to join them.
