Another new day

You wake up feeling well rested. When you check the time on your phone, you see it's still a bit early. You could lay in bed a bit longer, but you would rather get up now and take your time getting ready. You slowly get out of bed and grab some clothes for your morning shower. You enjoy the warm water as you wash, and once you're clean and refreshed, you start heading downstairs. You hear some noise from the kitchen on your way down. Your guess is it's probably your mother making some breakfast, and when you peek into the kitchen you see her standing with her back to you.

"Good morning," you say.

Your mother jumps before turning around to see you standing there.

"Jeez you scared me. I didn't even hear you come down the stairs."

You laugh and apologize before walking closer to see what she's making. You can hear the sound of something sizzling in a pan.

"Did you already shower?" she asks you.

"Yeah," you reply as you arrive at the stove next to her. Looking down, you see the beginnings of some scrambled eggs on the stove.

"Well if you're done getting ready, then how about you help me with breakfast?"

You oblige, and she ask you to make some bacon and toast while she finishes the eggs. When you're just about done, your sisters come down the stairs looking quite hungry.

"I can smell the bacon," Rachel says, mimicking a hound by sniffing the air. Her impression elicits a chuckle from you.

The four of you eat together at the table, chatting some as you do. Your mom finishes first, then says that she's going to head out before you and Alice.

"Remember, you can always come visit me in my office during lunch. I would love the company," she says to you and Alice as she's heading out the door.

Soon after, it's time for you to also leave for school. You ask Alice if she's coming, but she tells you to go ahead and that she'll leave in a minuet. You shrug to yourself before heading out the door.

As you're walking by yourself, you notice some other people arriving, and among them you see Lucy. When you do, you remember that the two of you were going to make some plans today to go see the town this weekend. Luckily for you, she's walking by herself, so you jog up to her and get her attention.

"Hey Lucy!" you say as you get closer. She turns around upon hearing her name, and smiles upon seeing your face.

"Alex! Didn't think I'd see you till economics."

"Yeah, same here," you reply.

"I don't think bus has arrived yet, do you walk to school?"

"Yeah, I live just a bit down that way," you say as you point a thumb over your shoulder.

"Lucky. I bet you don't have to wake up till late," she says.

The two of you keep walking while you chit chat about your mornings. When you reach a bench in the quad, Lucy sits down on one side and gestures you to also take a seat. There's still a minuet or two before class, so you gladly do.

"Hey, have you thought of some places to go check out this weekend?" you ask.

"Oh yeah. There's a few places I wanted to show you around on Sunday if that's good for you?"

"Sunday's fine. What kind of places are we going to?"

"You'll have to wait till then, I'm not giving you any spoilers," she says with a smile.

"Fine, guess I'll have to be patient," you say with fake exasperation. As you're finishing your sentence, the bell rings.

"Well, I'll see you in economics, Alex. Later," she says as she stands up.

"See ya,"

She gives you a short wave as she's turning around and heading off to whatever class she has. You do the same as you head off to statistics.
