Another Party

Lauren finishes her makeup and pulls out the finishing touch. As she touches the hat she feels the smooth cold satin. The hat looks brand new, but it feels old, antique even.

She places it on her head and it fits her perfectly. It makes her tingle with excitement. She gives her head a little shake and the hat stays in place, like it is meant for her. She gives herself a final check and turns to Clyde.

“Let’s go party.”

“Our chariot awaits.”

Lauren stares at Clyde’s posterior as they make their way to the limo. They hadn’t had sex in weeks. She supposed a lot of it was her fault. They’d wanted kids and tried hard. After repeatedly failing, a visit to the doctor showed why. She was barren. Her odds of ever getting pregnant were about one in a million.

She frowns, no more thoughts about kids. Tonight is about having fun.

The limo pulls up to the hall. The decorations are incredible. The company has gone all out this year. They make their way through a realistic graveyard, complete with fake fog to reach the front door. Lauren feels a strange eagerness, like something important is going to happen.

Clyde steps inside and Lauren follows.
