Another BNWO universe…
16-year-old Peter Parker was pissed. “But the ad said $5000 dollars!” He said.
“It said 5k for 30 minutes,” the shady wrestling promoter said. “You ended the fight in 2.”
“That’s not fair, I need the money!”
The promoter shrugged. “I miss the part where that’s my problem,” he said with a shit-eating grin.
Fighting back his tears of frustration, Peter pocketed the fifty bucks he had been paid and turned to leave the office.
Outside, Peter was walking towards the stairs when the doors of the event office which he came out from suddenly burst open and a big young black man in a hoodie came rushing out with a large duffel bag slung over his shoulder.
“Stop him!” The familiar voice of the event promoter yelled after the black youth. “He’s got all of this week’s money!”
Peter hesitated for a moment. He was sorely tempted to step aside and let the robber get away with the money to teach the fight promoter a lesson.
“With great power, comes great responsibility…” Peter’s uncle’s voice suddenly echoed in his head.
“I know you’ll always do the right thing, son,” Peter’s father’s voice followed his uncle’s in his head.
“Damn it,” Peter muttered and moved in to step before of the young black dude barreling towards him.
The robber slammed into Peter, mowing him down before leaping down the stairs behind him.
Peter was stunned. He could hardly believe it. Ever since he got his spider powers, he had become strong enough to stop a speeding car with his hands. Yet the robber just plowed through him like he was a wet paper bag.
“What the fuck are ya doin you useless goof!?” The promoter guy screamed as he jogged up to Peter. “You let that asshole get away!!!”
“S-shit… I think I broke a rib,” Peter gasped and winced on the floor.
“I miss the part where that’s my problem!!!” The promoter yelled as he hurriedly turned around to run back into his office. “Somebody call the cops!!!”
“Fuck, what an asshole,” Peter groaned. He picked himself up and proceeded to hobble down the stairs.
Luckily, it would seem that his ribs weren’t broken after all. The pain had subsided by the time he had exited the building.
But Peter’s rotten day wasn’t over, not by a long shot. As Peter started walking up the street, he noticed a commotion at the side of the road. Curious, Peter pushed through a crowd of onlookers to get a closer look. There were some cops keeping the crowd at bay while a team of paramedics were attending to two men who were passed out on the ground.
Peter’s blood turned cold as he recognized the faces of the two men on the ground. He pushed free from the crowd and ran towards them.
“Dad! Uncle Ben!” Peter called out.
“You know them, kid?” An officer asked as he stepped in front of Peter.
“That’s my dad and uncle,” Peter gasped.
“Sorry kid,” the officer replied, “I know you must be worried, but you need to let the paramedics do their thing.”
“What happened?” Peter asked.
“There was a robbery at the wrestling arena down the street,” the cop replied. “The robber came down this way and jacked their car. Gave the two of them quite a beating.”
“No….” Peter sobbed, “What are they even doing here?”
As it turns out, Richard and Benjamin Parker, Peter’s dad and uncle, were worried about Peter’s night activities and had followed him to the wrestling arena to keep tabs on him. When that fact got out, Peter duly blamed himself for the tragedy.
And what a tragedy it was. Richard and Benjamin’s injuries were so severe that they ended up in a coma. From that point on, Peter vowed to fight petty crime in the city and donned the now iconic mask of Spiderman.
