Annie learns the truth

“Yes, me. Do you have anything to say?” Laura asked.

“I-uh, I…”

“How about, sorry for licking your leg and kissing you in the lips?”

“I-I’m sorry? How did you-”

“Know where you are? I’m a detective, that’s what I do. Easy to find out when you stay at my hotel and leave a trove of evidence in your former room.

“You two have been causing quite the stir in town streaking all over the place. You even got a girl convinced that someone is blackmailing you to do so, but we both know the truth don’t we, lovebirds?”

So, Laura wasn’t the blackmailer, she was also investigating the case! Annie couldn’t find a better partner in all of the country… But, what was that about not being ****? Why would the couple act so lewdly if there wasn’t?

Angela stopped talking to fiddle with her fingers. Talia decided to finish her thought. “If one of us successfully completes a dare, then she can give the other one another challenge, and well, you get the idea. Things escalated a bit out of hand.”

“We were just trying to enjoy our vacation, you know? Please don’t arrest us,” said Angela.

What?! This was all the result of a degenerate game of double dare? That was the stupidest thing that Annie had heard in her entire life, or almost. Top ten at least. Those two were sick. How could she have wasted so much time on this nonsense?

“Relax, I’m a private detective, not a cop. Sides, I kinda get it. The only question I have left is, why me? Why did you lick me?”

“Well,” Talia fiddled with her fingers. “This whole thing started because Angela caught me on the beach, ehem, ogling you.”

“Understandable, go on.”

“And then I caught her ogling you, and that got us talking, flirting and teasing each other. Suffice to say, the first dare came about soon after. She dared me to, well, I don’t think I need to tell you...”

The door behind Laura briskly opened and she almost fell back. A tall, imposing man with a brick wall for a face looked down on her. “Ticket miss?”

“Oh, sorry. I’m not riding this train, just saying goodbye to my … "friends".”

“Miss, the train is about to depart, I must ask you to leave.”

“Alright, I think everything is cleared. That girl, the one that thought you were being blackmailed, she tracked you down first, you know? Shame she didn’t have the experience to recognize the M.O. of two perverts like you.”

Laura turned around and mumbled to herself. “Not bad, maybe I really ought to hire her when I get back at the office. See ya.”
