Ashley had a suspision as to how Anna had come to the country and by association how she had ended up a ****, but she nevertheless felt that she had to ask.

"Anna, do you think you could tell us what happened to you? It's okay if you can't." Ashley said

"No, es okay. I come here for work. In my village there is no much opportunity to make very good living and I was on my way to... no queria ser puta." So I gave money to come here to work here in secret, cleaning for a man with big house. One day I was dusting in library and señor call me to his study, there was a wooden box on his desk in front of him, first I thought I forgot to put back when dusting. He said that I had become citizen of America, I was very happy, then he told me that he now owned me, pushed the box to me and said it was time for me to open and to put it on. I no comprehend what happened and did not want señor to send me back so I opened and put this on." Anna pointed to her leather collar. "Señor Harvey explain I had more duties now, I still clean house like his maid but with new clothes and now I also clean Señor Harvey."

Ashley simply nodded understandlingly, she hadn't been that far off in her guess. Though she had thought that Anna had been enslaved by the coyotes. She didn't want to press Anna for more details, given that Anna herself said that she only spoke a little bit of english, though from what Ashley had heard she figured that Anna spoke better than she gave herself credit for.
