Chapter 2
by Wolf_Knight
First, who are you?
Andrew Graves, 51-year-old Angel Investor
Andrew had been lucky in life, born into a reasonably wealthy family, attending the best schools and excelling at his chosen career in investment banking he had retired in his early forties. He spent the next several years growing his own money and looking into Start-Ups that needed the support of an Angel Investor to get them off the ground and into the market. Life was not meant to be easy for him forever and on his 50th birthday he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that had infected his bones. He was terminal and there were no traditional medical options available to him.
He had been so busy building his portfolio and then aiding others in getting their dreams off the ground that he had never married. His family consisted of his widowed Father and younger siblings. Grace was his 45-year-old sister and was married with 3 children working as a high school teacher, his brother JD was 40 and a stay-at-home dad to twin daughters and a son while his wife was a Captain in the Navy's JAG Corps. His sister Allison had just turned 36 and was happily running he own bakery business in their hometown that Andrew had invested in to get it off the ground. She was his first Angel Investment and the Bakery has been running strong for 7 years. Allison had been married and divorced and had a pair of wonderful sons to show for it. The father was completely out of the picture but they were better off for it. His youngest sibling was a bit of a surprise and a half sister, his father had been dating a younger woman for couple of years. Akiko was 24 and just graduated from college with a degree in information technology, she had however paid for school through working as a model so it was anyone's guess on whether she would use the degree in IT or continue her career as a model.
After speaking with the entire family about his health they all told him to start looking for treatment options that didn't fall under the umbrella of traditional medicine. They said you've made it your life's work to make other people's dreams a real, start trying to find someone who can make your dreams of a living a full life real as well. Andrew got down to digging for information on new treatments and other research concepts immediately. Things were looking bleak as his health deteriorated quickly over the next nine months. Then his research hit upon something compelling, there was a 4 person research team looking into the idea of transferring the mind of a terminally ill patient into the body of a person who while medically brain dead the body was still alive and an organ doner. While it sounded like science fiction he decided to take a closer look at the data. The Team consisted of a World Class Neuro-surgeon, a Bio-Chemical Engineer, an Internal Medicine MD and a Research Scientist. They didn't outline exactly how the procedure would work as he didn't have any medical knowledge. They did inform him that the procedure was far from guaranteed and that they would need wait for a reasonably compatible doner to become available. They informed him up front that that doner could fall in any age group and either gender so he could wake up as any ethnicity or gender if he proceeded.
With his health rapidly worsening he went back to his family to discuss what he had found. His father and most of his sibling told him they would support whatever he decided but didn't encourage him either way. Akiko and his nieces and nephews that were old enough to understand all encouraged him to go for it and they would help him with whatever he needed when he got out of the hospital. When he went to remind them that it was a longshot that he'd survive they told him he was too strong to give up and would make it through. That night he contacted the research group and his lawyer to work out the legal ramifications and set up his future self.
It was while celebrating his 51st Birthday with his family that the disease progressed far enough to cause him to collapse and be hospitalized. Quickly worsening health caused a race against time. They needed and doner body or his life was going to end in very short order. Four days after he entered the hospital he lost consciousness and it was all up to fate....
Two months later who's body is he now awakening in?
