"You want to what?" Tegan yelled across from you at the table. You'd told her what Alison had offered you. Well, it was more of a command, but you weren't going to tell her that. Alison had 'offered' for you to come work for her as her right-hand man and legal aide. With it came a massive pay raise, but you'd also be leaving the firm your father left for you as well as the team there b

"And Alison? I thought you hated her! She bullied us, like, all the time!" Tegan put her hands on her hips.

"I know, but she's nothing like that anymore. She offered me the position, saying that there was a lot of legal reworking to be done after the last mayor. She also needs someone to help her with everything. I hate to leave the office, but she also offered me a pay raise as well as some nice benefits." You replied, trying to assuage her fears.

The reality was: you'd already 'accepted' the job. Now, you just needed to sell Tegan on it. "We could start saving up for that cabin you want with this extra money. I know it's not really what I want to do with my career, but I think it'll really help us."

Tegan sighed; you were right. With her teaching, she wasn't exactly bringing in a lot of money — even just to pay the bills. While you worked at the law firm, you made a sizeable pay, but this was even more than that. "If... this is what you truly want."

"It is," you offered her a smile.

It was difficult leaving the law firm after you'd just gotten there. You would still stay on to consult and help manage it, but you were taking a major back seat again. Aubrey assured you that you still had a place there once you felt settled and stable enough. Whether you'd ever end back up there wasn't really up to you, though.
