An unsubtle set-up

The four women enjoyed a lively meal together, sharing stories and swapping laughs. As they talked, Jean and Shayera began to feel more comfortable around one another, and by the time the bill was paid, they were chatting like old friends. Noticing the obvious sparks between their friends, Kori leaned in and whispered something in MJ's ear.

"It has been lovely spending time with you two, but MJ and I should be going," Kori said, placing a hand on MJ's thigh and giving her a coy smile.

"Yeah, that's right... Kori juuust reminded me that we've got some things to take care of, so we need to take off," MJ agreed, taking Kori's hand and grinning at Jean and Shayera. "Kind of a shame... looks like Kori & I won't be able to enjoy that dessert and bottle of wine we ordered... but you two could."

"I agree. It would be a shame to let it go to waste," Kori agreed, playing along. "Perhaps you and Jean should stay here and share it?"

"I... I suppose I could," Shayera said, caught off guard.

"I guess I could, too... you two did already pay for it," Jean shrugged, her heart pounding like a jackhammer. She realized what her girlfriends were doing, and while she still felt some nerves, she was also grateful to them for acting as her wingwomen for the night.

"Well then, we'll see you two later. Have a wonderful evening," Kori said, kissing both Shayera and Jean on the cheek.

"Enjoy yourselves," MJ grinned, also planting a kiss on each of their cheeks. "Let's do this again real soon, OK?"

And with that, Kori & MJ were off, leaving Jean and Shayera alone together.

"Well, that was about as subtle as a jackhammer," Shayera chuckled. "Still, I'm glad they set this up. I feel much more comfortable now, thanks to them."

"Same here," Jean admitted. "It's weird. We just met, but it's almost like... like part of me has known you for centuries."

Shayera nodded, a knowing look on her face. "You've been having visions too, haven't you?" she asked.

"Yeah, I have... I've been dreaming lately about you, and I don't know why," Jean explained. "I feel like I may be asking too much of you, but since you've apparently had visions yourself... would you mind if I took a peek inside your mind later? It might help both of us better understand our connection."

"No, I wouldn't mind. I was actually going to suggest that myself," Shayera answered. "Right now, though, let's just enjoy our dessert and that bottle of wine..."
