An unexpected offer

An hour later Quinn walked out of Ben’s office feeling like she’d won the lottery. It was only as she was exiting the outer office she noticed Maria Gomez walking out right behind her. “Ms. Larson if you have a few minutes I’d appreciate speaking privately.” Maria smiled but hoped she’d agree. “Of course Mrs. Gomez. If you’d like we can head to the breakroom and have a chat.” Quinn sighed but wondered what this was about. “I’d actually prefer somewhere more private. How about we head to your work area and have our chat?” Maria sighed hoping she’d agree to what she had in mind. “That’s fine ma’am but to be honest I’m curious as to what the CEO’s personal assistant could want to speak privately with me about.” Quinn smiled uncertainly but started towards her small lab area. “I figured you would be but once we’re alone I promise all will be explained. Please just trust me that this isn’t a bad thing but could prove very profitable for both of us.” Maria smiled reassuringly but hoped things went the way she wanted as she followed her closely.

Ten minutes later the two women walked into Quinn’s lab and Maria looked around with a frown. “This is where you’ve accomplished so much? How did you ever manage with this obsolete lab and equipment?” she turned to Quinn in curiosity as she pulled her data pad out and hit several keys. “I’ve just worked with what they gave me. They said the lab was too small for the new holographic table and assorted other new equipment. They said if I wanted them I’d have to share a lab but the work I do can be sensitive so I prefer to have my own lab. This was all they had left by the time I got here.” Quinn sighed but wondered how much more she could have accomplished with a better lab. “I promise you now; you’ll have a state of the art lab to work in and you won’t be sharing with anyone. So let me start off by saying that I’ve been very impressed with your work Quinn. You see; I’m not the CEO’s personal assistant but the CEO. The man they believe to be the CEO is actually my personal android. I believe it makes things easier for everyone to believe he’s in charge and gives me more leeway.” Maria chuckled at the stunned expression she wore.

“I can see how that might be but I don’t understand why you’d tell me this.” Quinn shook her head in confusion. “It’s simple really; we’re opening a new park with new attractions no one has ever seen before. The concept is one that no one has ever considered before either. There’s bound to be cases of industrial espionage from our competitors and you’re uniquely qualified to help me weed those cases out. Quinn, your investigative background and your psych and programming background will allow us to do some great things but from time to time I may need you for special assignments within the park.” Maria sighed but wondered how best to approach the topics needing to be discussed. “What does that even mean exactly?” Quinn wasn’t sure what the other woman might mean by that. “I’ve done some extensive research on you Quinn. I know you were in the marines and you were an MP. Those investigative skills you’ve picked up will help us inside the park and that’s not mentioning the observational skills you’ve acquired. Let me explain the concepts that are going into the park.” Maria smiled and hoped she’d agree to what she had in mind.

The next morning Quinn smiled slightly as she packed her meager belongings into her suitcases. She knew she had about an hour before the helicopter arrived to carry her to the island but was excited to see the new ways they were using the technology. She was also looking forward to the 6 weeks’ vacation she’d been told she’d get after seeing the park and its facilities. She was even more excited when they’d described the ways they had integrated the android CPU’s with human tissue to create the inhabitants of the park. She knew before she could enter the park she’d have to fill out a very detailed questionnaire that would detail what all she’d like to experience while in the park. She also knew the park offered her a chance to live out any type of fantasy or adventure she’d ever dreamed of or would once all of the attractions were ready. She was thrilled to try out the park but knew she would be very busy once her vacation ended.
