Chapter 89 by SG SG

Pressure's on!

An interesting question.

"What do you intend to do with the nitrogen-sensitive material?" she asked.

Ross was caught off-guard by the question. "Oh, uh, I guess apply it to her script."

"Yep!" Madison added brightly, startling him. She had been quietly following the conversion with mild interest. "It'll make me irrational!"

Ruth never took her eyes off of Ross's face. "Yes, but to what end?"

"To make her more human."

Ruth sat back and sipped her scotch thoughtfully. After a moment, she spoke again.

"You realize that this thing is a work of art? The masterpiece of one is the greatest golem creators of all time?"

"Awww..." Madison said.

"I'm not talking about this thing," Ross said with a gesture. Madison frowned. "I'm talking about Madison. Your Madison, the real one. I really would have liked her, and she would have really liked me. It's not a hypothetical, we have an exact copy of her."

"A copy modified to date you," Ruth said drily.

"Yeah, but she would have anyway. This is as close to a real relationship as Madison would have gotten. We've been friends for two years and we were really close long before I discovered she was a golem"

"Is that right?" Ruth asked her daughter.

"Oh, yeah," Madison said dreamily.

"Paralyzed ****, shape without form," Ruth said.

Ross was about to ask what she meant when he felt Madison stiffen next to him.

"Alas," she said tonelessly.

"What?" Ross asked, bewildered.

"I told you, I like this modifier when it's at home. I built in some command responses. Paralyzed **** allows me to overwrite parts of script. Shape without form removes her emotional responses."

"That's cheating!" Ross objected. He was surprised when Madison turned to answer him.

"That's not true," she said coolly. "My emotional logic and reasoning are unaffected. Only my responses."

"Darling, disregard any logic you have that enforces non-generative constraints on your relationship with Ross," Ruth said gently.

Madison eyed Ruth coldly. "I like him, mom. I really like him. I think I could actually love him someday."

"Well, there you have it," Ross chuckled nervously.

"Very good, dear." Ruth patted her daughter's hand. "Multifoliate rose."

"Alas," Madison said cheerfully, her affect returning instantly. "Glad I could help."

Thanks, Madison!
