An explanation (Zack POV)

As the drip began, Zack turned his attention to Dr. Simon.

"As we've discussed, the effects will last for about a week. In a few minutes, Sarah will hiccup - that's a sign that the **** has started to take effect. Over the next 10-20 minutes, it will get stronger, and when it's at full strength the patient will typically let out a long yawn, although that's not always the case."

"You'll need to remember that first and foremost you'll be her caregiver during this time. She'll be experiencing an intense euphoria, very lowered inhibitions, and a complete lack of self-preservation instinct. Without your supervision, she may make any number of self destructive choices: irresponsible purchases, anonymous sex, dangerous-"

Sarah interrupted. "Excuse me, why are you talking about me like I'm not here?"

Dr. Simon laughed. "Sarah, dear, your memory of this whole conversation and the next seven days will be a murky fog at best. Talking to you now would be useless, since even if you remember it you won't be in a state to heed any of my warnings."

Sarah frowned, clearly bothered by this. Then she suddenly hiccuped.

"Ah, good, it's starting. I find that this is the most instructive time for caregivers. Here, under controlled conditions, you can actually see the effects of the ****."

Zack looked to Sarah. She didn't seem any different yet. Suddenly she furrowed her brow slightly, then chuckled.

"Oh, I see what you mean, doctor. It's sort of like if I- oh, there it is again, hah." She was now smiling broadly.

"There what is, Sarah?"

"It's just this feeling, like a sort of tickling sensation in my- oh wow, yeah I'm feeling it." She grinned at Zack. "Wow wow wow. Yeah doc, I didn't know it would be like this."

Zack looked her over. Seeing his girlfriend in this giddy, gleeful state was very odd. It was slightly creepy, like she wasn't herself anymore. She squeezed his hand a little tighter.

"Oh my goodness, this feels really good. Babe, you have got to try this some time. Wow!"

Dr. Simon paused. "Sarah, do you mind if Zack and I talk a little more about you?"

She laughed. "Of course not!"
