Amy needs comforting

Matt was halfway between Biology and Trig when he spotted Amy sniveling behind a bush.

"What's wrong?" He had a horrible suspicion she'd just failed the Trig exam which would mean his chances of making any money tutoring her just went down the drain.

"Oh, I hate myself. Everyone is mean to me."

"Who is mean to you? I'm not. Did Karen say--"

"Karen is fine. It's everyone else."

"Screw them."

"Yeah, easy for you to say. You're a guy. You can do whatever you want. {if wendydate=true}You can go out with some redhead who probably gives head in a glory hole and nobody minds.{endif} If you ask some girl out and she says no, who cares? You have a couple hundred more girls. But if you're a girl, you have to sit on your ass and wait... and the only girls that get asked out are the pretty ones. Ones with smashed-in faces just get laughed at or worse."

The emphasis she put on worse made him think she was getting to the point.

"What could be worse?"

"Getting asked out and then, when you say yes, they laugh at you and say they were kidding."

That did sound like an asshole move. Matt certainly didn't consider himself any kind of Galahad or anything but he wouldn't be intentionally mean just to hurt someone, especially not a girl. "Someone did that to you?"

"Yeah, Jordan."

"Jordan is a jerk, Amy. You should have said no to him the second he asked."

She laughed which was an improvement over sniffling but still not great. "Oh, sure. Just like you'd say no if Tanya told you she just desperately needed you to give her a gynecological exam."

She had a point. If Tanya asked him to do anything, he'd salivate, ring the bell, jump through hoops, or whatever other psychological humiliations were required.

"We can talk about this later, Amy," he said. "Right now I'm late to class. But don't let assholes get to you. You're a cute girl. Guys are going to want to be with you. But now I really am late and so are you."
