Chapter 5

Unfortunately for him, the power went out...

Alone in the dark... with your thoughts

The entire building somehow lost power suddenly like the generator had suddenly gone off.

Luckily; Harlan had his cellphone on hand and turned on the flashlight app.

It was alright for now but what made it difficult mainly was the office door wouldn’t open suddenly like something was keeping it shut.

Except Harlan never even shut the door behind him when entering...

After trying to open it; Harlan called out hoping someone could help him.

*BANG* *BANG*

“Hello? Can anyone hear me? The door won’t open.”

Nobody answered and there didn’t sound like anyone else was out there.

So for now; Harlan was trapped...

*Click*

And his phone suddenly shut off even though it was fully charged earlier.

Despite the growing darkness around him however; Harlan closed his eyes and tried to breathe easy while thinking of this situation.

‘Alright, since I first stepped inside this house. I’ve been seeing strange phenomenon more then should be possible.’

‘That phone call and interference, the claw marks and dried blood on the floor even finding Keith on the security camera and his torn clothes... not to mention his eyes and strange pale skin.’

‘Now the power suddenly switches off and I’m alone in this darkness... like someone or something is watching me, enjoying my unnerved feelings and feeding off of it.’

Taking a breathe; Harlan finishes his assessment.

‘Something unnatural is happening, I don’t know what it is or how it’s happening but I know this. I need to find out more about these stories on the house’s history. If there truly are supernatural events happening suddenly then I could be in danger, HELL maybe the other tourists too. I need to get to the bottom of this before something dangerous happens to anyone else.’

Before Harlan could think on how to get out here, the power suddenly turned back on.

At least the lighting was still working since the office cameras were still off.

Harlan figures whatever interference was messing with his phone might be affecting technology itself too.

His phone was worthless but would stay in his pocket for now.

Trying the door again; Harlan had no trouble opening it this time.

But what’s different was that the entire hallway suddenly changed. It was more as if the furniture and hallway was designed for older times years back then the more modern setting from earlier.

The electric lights were now lanterns with a strange dark glow to them.

You could still see alright but it seemed more unnerving to go through plus it might be more dangerous.

Luckily; Harlan found a separate lantern on a side table near a painting of the house itself. (Now depicting a dark setting with a disturbing red moon and ghoulish green lighting from the windows)

Picking up the lantern, it was an old fashioned dark yellow oil lantern but more brand new.

Harlan had no fire source on hand but maybe there would be some matches near..

*FWIP*

by...

The lantern just lit up with a slightly bright blue flame once Harlan picked it up.

He looked at the lantern for a moment before deciding to just move on from it.

The flame didn’t actually unnerve Harlan so much as it seemed more reassuring to him like the lantern was going to help guide him.

Harlan knew the library might have some information on this house’s history and could hold journals from the old owner of the house.

Hopefully there would be something useful to find.

Meanwhile in the basement, there was a scream.
