Alchemist

An Alchemist seeks the answer to his questions in scientific discoveries. He finds great delight in brewing potions and concoctions. Many alchemists may have a penchant for pyrotechnics. Others develop their studies in the area of biomancy and human enhancement. Some even use their aptitude to study, create and use lethal poisons. The nicknames are Pyros, Beasts, and Toxins respectively. Most alchemists use their chemicals to extract magical effects from their aura. Depending on the individual Alchemist’s preference, they can choose to specialize in one or many of these things. Who knows what a given alchemist may do, their unpredictability is one of the only things that they all share in common.

Alchemists are usually outcasts among society’s outcasts, the words “mad scientist” is often used to describe them. However many alchemists have found a place in society, militaries, and economies, as their employers take the good with the bad.

Alchemists, depending on their choice in aptitudes find employ in various roles in the militaries of particularly brave generals. Pyros work as effective mobile artillery and sappers. They destroy hardened targets and sabotage key positions before the main forces arrive. Beasts are used sparingly as frontline combatants, wading through combat and killing foes. A Beast who has drank the proper mutagen can go toe to toe with an enraged barbarian in combat. Toxins are the least used by formal militaries, as they are often employed by governments, insurgencies, and other organizations that would be in need of their particular services.

Alchemists can be seen as valued assets, or unpredictable liabilities. They could be capricious allies, or wily assailants. One might never know what is up their sleeve, even if the person guessing is also an alchemist themselves. Who knows what mischief an alchemist coukd get away with in the land of Gristhaia?
