Afterword

Hello, Paris here! If you are reading this, it means you have (probably) finished Porter’s story. Firstly, thank you! I really appreciate anybody who took the time to read this tonally confused work. Secondly, you don’t have to read any further if you don’t want to.

I started this story after completing the first draft of my first novel as a side project to practice my writing in a low-stakes environment. No deadlines and instant gratification by knowing how many people have read each chapter. It was meant to be a space to try my hand in a completely different genre and editing style (very little). Of course, over time, it grew out of my control. But two years, 50 chapters, and 90,000 words later, I am done!

CHYOA is, by definition, a smut website. Initially, I leaned into it. However, I quickly learned that writing the sex scenes was the most challenging. I underestimated how difficult it would be to keep smut fresh and interesting in each chapter. I tried my best, but over time, the distance between NSFW scenes increased, and my desire to focus the chapters on sex decreased. As you may have noticed, the story transitioned slowly from smut to romance. I much prefer writing romance, and I took the path of least resistance. I hope I didn’t disappoint anybody with that transition, but I stumbled upon a story that I felt compelled to tell. A story that required sex to be meted out in a more measured manner.

Despite the difficulty of crafting a cohesive narrative structure on a chapter-by-chapter basis, I think that I delivered a satisfying story about sex, control, and redemption. My love of tomboys, combined with the central themes, creates the heart of the story: the romance between Kendra Saunders and the main character. If you couldn’t tell, I am a big fan of Hawkgirl. Unfortunately, there aren’t many great Hawkgirl runs. The character’s history is often confusing and is often overshadowed by the more dynamic Hawkman. Hopefully, I was able to create a satisfying arc for her even in her role as a secondary character.

Having read and watched so many DC works, I wanted to create an amalgamated world for my DC universe. If you want some recommendations or want to know where I pulled most of my references from, here they are:

• JSA (1999-2007)/Justice Society of America (2007-2011)

• Robin (1993-2009) (Mostly the parts written by Chuck Dixon)

• Teen Titans (2003-2011)

• Hawkgirl (2023)

• Young Justice (TV Show)

• Justice League Unlimited (TV Show)

Obviously, this story/path is done, but moving forward into the future, there are other additions to make. Most obviously, there are different paths. Rejecting the ultimatum and pushing Porter further down a path of villainy and lust. I’ve had other ideas that fit the “DC Legends of Lust” theme, including Steve Trevor on Paradise Island and a loose adaptation of Robin (1993-2009) and its many female love interests. I also feel that I could retool and/or censor this story as a general standalone fanfiction for other websites.
