Adolphus

Adolphus, you think, might be a good person to have with you. After all, he's in charge here - the slaves will surely recognize his authority. You head down to the main house in search of him.

You find him out in the fields already, overseeing the beginning of the day's work. "Adolphus!" you call out as you approach. He finishes his brief conversation with a ****, then turns and approaches you.

"Yes, Lord Gaius?"

"I think I'd like to interview the slaves on the estate about the bandits who have been plaguing the area. Can you accompany me?"

Adolphus shrugs, but nods. "Of course, my lord. Though I have to tell you, I doubt any of them will have much to tell you."

"You never know, my friend. In this sort of situation, it's always best to leave no stone unturned."

That gets a smile from him. "You're right, of course, sir. Come with me - we can start immediately."
