Addresses a New Recruit

Mercy entered Overwatch headquarters through security gate C. Mina Erickson was standing guard and the two chatted while Mercy went through the metal detector and had her items checked, all a formality.

"Good morning, Dr Ziegler."

"Good morning, Captain Erickson. How is the team today?"

"Good. Agent Cassidy is leading Mr Correia and Lieutenant Wilhelm on a mission in Siberia."

Mercy knew that Cassidy was the new cover name for Jesse McCree since his cover was blown and she also recognized Lucio and Reinhardt's last names, "I do hope that the situation improves there."

"Same. Well here you go, ma'am."

Mercy took her belongings back and walked into the base. As she went to the medical station, she noticed Brigitte Lindholm and Lena Oxton in the base gym. Lena was chatting on the phone with her girlfriend and Brigitte was on the rowing machine. Mercy took a quick moment to admire Brigitte's muscles before catching herself and moving on. She entered the lab to see the med bay largely empty save the medical staff. She saw her administrative assistant, Jared, approach her.

"Good morning, Doctor! No injuries on the raid last night. Bad news is it seems Talon knew we were coming and abandoned it with any usable intel."

"That's alright. I am sure Winston is already figuring out how they knew. So what is on the docket for today."

"Well, you're right. Since Director Winston is scrambling to double check our OpSecs, he asked you to do an interview of a new recruit in his stead. Apparently this young man, Kyle Forester, claims to have powers that will be helpful to our organization."

"Powers? Has he invented something novel?"

"File just says powers, but the recruiter in Oregon that he talked to seemed to think he was impressive enough to send here."

"Is he here now?"

"Yes ma'am. He is waiting in Conference Room H."

"I'll go there now."

It was a short walk from the medical bay to the conference room. Mercy was glad that whoever scheduled this knew the closest conference room to her work station. She entered the room less than three minutes later. It looked like an average conference room one would see anywhere in the business world. Overwatch had a lot of impressive technology but they were practical and a conference room just needed to be a room you could have a conference in. Kyle himself looked rather ordinary. According to his file he was 21, but his haggard look made him look older than that. Mercy knew not to judge off that, looking younger than her 37 thanks to the nanobot medical tech she invented. She sat down across from the young man who came to an interview in a sweatshirt and torn jeans.

"Hello there, Mr Forester. I am Dr. Angela Ziegler and I will be conducting your interview. Perhaps to start you can put in your own words why you feel you will fit as part of Overwatch?" Mercy would not usually be so bold in the first question but nothing she had seen impressed her and she needed to know if this was a waste of time.

Kyle sighed, "I... have powers. They can be hard to control and can have terrible consequences. If I could... control them better, I think I could help the world, so I was hoping you could help."

He looked at Mercy. She saw him take a peek at her modest bust. She frowned. He frowned, "I am sorry. I didn't realize you would be the one interviewing me. Maybe this was a mistake."

Mercy slammed Kyle's file on the desk. This misogyny really got to her, "Mr Forester, I am just as qualified as anyone else on the team. Now, if you want help. I suggest you tell what this power of yours is right now! Otherwise, this interview will be over."

Kyle looked at her glare and nodded, "Alright."
