Inside the motel lobby, you are almost surprised to see a small venue or conference room and a marquee signboard that reads, "Adonis Public Meet N Greet. 8:30 - 9:30 PM" Now you're really unsure what to expect from these people, but at least you are in the right place. A quick look at the clock confirms it is 8:34. Wow. Adonis only shows itself for one hour, once a year?

You find yourself hesitating in the lobby. There's no one at the counter, and no guests anywhere to be seen, so you're completely alone. Getting knocked up as a teen and **** to raise two kids as a single mother by some scared teenage guy is one thing, but Adonis seems really serious. The words you read about them online replay in your head. "They're sexist brutes. Barbaric. They genuinely believe that women are less than men, some treat them like slaves, like animals, like objects."

I want it. Your feet move towards the door. You're tired of being the single mother, of having to make all the rules and enforce all the rules, spending your time and energy making sure your daughters learn the right lessons and can stand on their feet. All you want now is to let go, to let someone else make and enforce all the rules. You're more than just willing, you're eager to surrender. You've never wanted anything more than you want this.

Pulling open the door, you cross into the room. The decor is cheap and tacky. Ugly carpet. Some folding chairs and tables set up in one half of the room with an unimpressive array of snacks. There are precisely seven people in the room, besides yourself, in two distinct groups. Three average-looking men in jeans and casual shirts stand near the snack table chatting. One of them is holding the hand of a rather uncomfortable-looking woman, also in jeans. Among them, a well-dressed man and an attractive middle-aged woman. Both of them wear a small silver pin on their clothing. Another man sits alone on the other side of the room. He also wears a pin and is dressed in slacks and a nice shirt.

These three must be members. The woman notices you enter and smiles warmly, then gently nudges the man beside her, who turns to look at you. She excuses herself from the group and approaches. As she moves, the floor-length dress she's wearing reveals a daring slit nearly to her hip, fully exposing one leg with each step. "Hello! Welcome! My name is Alice. It's so nice to see a new face."

You smile. "Chelsea. Thanks! I'm excited to be here but I don't really know what to expect."

She looks past you to the door, still slowly closing. "Oh, you came alone? Most women who come to these are brought here by their men." She tilts her head and looks you up and down thoughtfully. "So forgive me for prying, but I'm very curious why you're here. Most people see this as an organization 'for' men."

You feel a warmth in your cheeks as you think of a proper response. A few of the men laugh together about something in their conversation, but it's too far away for you to overhear. Finally, not wanting to be too obvious about the true depths of your reasons for coming, you offer simply, "I... agree with what Adonis stands for. I want to support it."

Alice looks you over again, eyeing the chain necklace around your neck, and frowns slightly. "You're young."

That's flattering, you're in your thirties.

She continues, "If you think this is some kind of fun time club, you're in way over your head. Adonis is a big commitment, not a game. Without a man to keep you in line—" She pauses, controlling the edge that was creeping into her voice by taking a deep beath. "I'm just trying to help you. We get girls like you in here sometimes, looking for a fun hookup, or some kind of roleplay. This isn't it; this is the real deal."

You're taken aback. This was supposed to be a friendly introduction to the group and its members. What do you say to that? Should you just leave?
