Accept the deal

You hold Dana’s gaze, letting your eyes linger on hers just long enough to acknowledge the unspoken current passing between you. A slow, knowing nod seals the arrangement.

“Deal,” you say, your voice dropping to match her low, intimate pitch. “You know I always take exceptional care of you, Dana. Having Lauren in the mix won’t change that, if anything, it just raises the stakes.”

Dana’s eyes flare with a sudden, appreciative heat at your words.

You reach under the polished log counter and pull out the heavy brass key ring for the main guest cabin, along with the neatly stacked check-in packets. As you slide them across the smooth wood, your fingers lightly brush against hers. The contact is brief, but deliberate, a quiet spark of mature friction before the storm of the upcoming week.

Dana gathers the keys with a fluid, practiced grace, the heavy metal clinking softly in her hand. “Perfect,” she murmurs, her gaze finally breaking from yours to look toward the back office door. “Why don’t you go ahead and break the news to our newest trainee? I’ll get these three settled into the cabin and give them the evening to look over the syllabus. We start at first light.”

She turns smoothly on her heel, her long linen duster billowing slightly behind her. Her commanding posture instantly snaps her trainees out of their respective worlds. Maya stops spinning the postcard rack, Heather’s shoulders drop as she looks up, and Vicky’s icy blue eyes narrow slightly, tracking Dana’s movement.

“Alright, ladies,” Dana announces, her smoky voice carrying effortlessly across the grand, firelit lobby. “We have our keys. Let’s get unpacked and settled. We have a surprise addition to our roster joining us tomorrow, so I suggest you all get some serious rest tonight. Follow me.”

As Dana leads the three women out through the front door and into the crisp mountain air toward the guest cabin, the lobby falls into a profound, expectant silence. The crackle of the hearth fire feels louder now.

You turn toward the back office door, the reality of what you’ve just volunteered your wife for setting in. Lauren is currently sitting at the desk, completely unaware that her quiet week of managing the resort’s books has just been transformed into a grueling, emotionally charged yoga intensive under Dana’s watchful eye.
