Chapter 9 by Maltese Maltese

Do you:

AOTC: Three Years Later

You while away another day in exile on Tatooine. While you keep an eye on the infant Luke from afar, you days are spent meditating, working to survive the arid desert heat and reflecting on your past regrets.

You regret not being able to save Anakin, your brother and apprentice. You regret Padme's ****. You regret being unable to stop the rise of the Empire.

Try as you might, however, you find yourself unable to regret that afternoon you spent in the Jedi Temple with Aayla Secura, right before the Clone Wars broke out.

Your Twi'Lek lover had disappeared, months into the war itself. Though most suspected she had been lost in the carnage of the Clone Wars, part of you held out hope you would see her again.

The suns of Tattooine are begining to set as you spy a figure approaching your isolated settlement.

You are confused and alarmed, until you see the skin, blue as crystal waters in this desert world. Until you see the pair of lightsabers hanging from the cloaked figure's belt.

Until you see the twi'lek infant she holds swaddled in her arms, and the other in a papoose over her back.

"Aayla?" You say, unable to contain your amazement.

"Obi-Wan, it's me." She confirms, taking down her hood. You run to her.

"Where did you- Why" you begin.

"I made a choice, when I started to show." Aayla reveals. "I knew the Masters would expel me from the Order, and sensed there were those who would do anything to possess the offspring of powerful **** Sensitives."

You remain silent, allowing the twi'lek all the time she needs to explain herself.

"I had to make a choice. My duty or my family." Aayla summates. "I chose family."

"A difficult choice, my old friend." you tell her, honestly. "Were I in your shoes, I'm not sure what I would have done."

"I misspoke before. For it was not my family alone. Our family. Ours." Aayla says, offering you the bundle in her arms.

You accept it, knowing, just as you knew in that unoccupied room those years ago, that the child was yours.

"You have two beautiful daughters." Aayla announces, beaming at you in a way that makes you want her all over again.

Both children favour their mother in physiology and colouring, but you can sense their blood tie to you.

"When they were born, I knew I had to find you." Aayla reveals. "It took me a while, but eventually, I got into contact with General Organa."

"I don't know what to say." you say, looking at Aayla in the binary sunset.

"Say that you'll be with me, Obi-Wan." Aayla pleads. "I need you. The Order is gone. Let's be a family..."

"I'm still a Jedi." you protest. "I still have my duties."

"Then let me stand at your side, lover." Aayla offers.

Your hermitage just got a lot less lonely...
