ALICE Ch 154

For once, Alice isn’t thinking about Kylie at all. She is more than occupied with Faye’s soft body in her arms. They’re in an armchair in the suite, surrounded by clothes. Alice is deep inside Faye, but there’s so much to distract her from those feelings. “Used to what?” Faye asks, absolutely failing to read the room.

Irked, Alice looks up at her. Being in a committed relationship? Feelings? Monogamy? Alice can’t answer questions about things that she doesn’t even understand. What she feels, she can’t say out loud.

“Used to being with my teammate,” she lies finally.

“Oh.” Faye looks slightly crestfallen.

The replies to the last vote were informative. It sounds like there's some interest in a new POV and also some interest in continuing with Alice. There's some interest in getting Alice to be single and available again but no appetite for hurting Faye's feelings. We can't have our cake and eat it too 100% here, but rather than arbitrarily doing something unpopular, I'm going to view this as a challenging writing exercise and embrace it. Since this is fiction with imagination as the only real limit, I'm happy to set melodramatic artistic integrity aside and bend things a little to make this closer to being the story that the most possible readers will enjoy. We will continue with Alice as the lead for now, we'll continue to do brief POV shifts as we have been, such as peeking in on Colby and the Amazons, to diversify the lewd content, and I will massage the story to make sure that Alice's life doesn't get boring. However, let's just deal with this right now: we can't stay with her forever. The majority of readers have consistently indicated a preference for lead characters to be femme-futa-top mains. Erica Bruhl is standing over there tapping her foot; she's the one who can believably hook up with the Woodcock twins tonight, the Amazons in the morning, and Kylie before lunch. There is no shortage of potential interesting leads. I'm trying to read the room rather than just do my own thing, though. We'll probably meet some new potential leads in the weeks and months to come. When the time comes to change, there will be votes to determine should the new lead have a penis or not? Should they be a top main or not? Should they be a driver or not? Etc. (We would have been doing those votes now had this last one gone overwhelmingly toward change.)

To address another thing that came up in discussion, the difference between OG FSC with its variety and million different routes and my stories the past few years which are linear and vote-driven. If we're being real, this doesn't take full advantage of the CHYOA format, but most of this doesn't belong on AO3 and Literotica is a pain to use. The main reason I don't do the routes and choices like FSC anymore is because it's extremely labor-intensive. I know that sounds bad, but it's true. The choices are only cool if they're already there--OK, you don't want to wait a day or a week for the options (finish on her back or inside/date with Beth or date with Ingrid) to populate, so to do those branching paths you have to write a ton of content in advance, post it all at once, and then you can either pour more work into keeping it fed or it vanishes AND is an unsatisfying experience. When I was starting undergrad and never going outside, I really enjoyed doing all that. I still think it's fun and I would love to finish my top-secret, very interactive and robust gamified SSS Twine game full of options, items, keys, endings, scene variations, status effects (****)... I just can't afford the time. These days, I think developing characters, stakes, and storylines that are (maybe) a little more involved and robust than is typical in amateur online smut is more interesting as well as being more feasible for having daily updates. Voting is definitely an imperfect way to add interactivity, but it seems to be the best we can do right now. Multiple branches of the same timeline--even if they're being done one at a time--is still prohibitive because of the hassle of keeping the races and outcomes and points straight. I'm sorry; I know the game stuff was cool, but I can't sink that kind of time right now. Never say never, but these voting stories are what I'm doing at the moment. And we do have a lot of variety in the backup stories that run between FF1 votes. Anyway, you probably don't care about all that, but it's transparency. So FF1 will continue with a few small tweaks for a while and we will circle back to this at some point in the future.

I think a good solution to "Having something for everyone," is to have shorter stories with a more deliberate emphasis on variety, but then you lose people. This is smut; readers are here looking for something specific, and they're not going to wade through a month or two of a story focused on a kink they don't care about in the hope that maybe next month's story will be more their speed. We're kind of stuck in a brand here. Femme-futa-top mains. I think a fair number of readers would tolerate a non-futa bottom girl as a lead, but we probably don't want to get too far away from this general area of content. (Tragic; my preferred smut genre is actually yaoi.)
