A video recording

There on the screen is a picture of herself, sitting bottomless upon the lavatory as she was a few moments ago. The centre of the image is overlaid by the rightward pointing triangle in a circle which denotes a video recording, rather than a still image. Layla does not even bother to play it, having no doubt it shows the entirety of her degradation. Once the shock wears off, she is seething with rage, although she does not know what to do about it.

Annoyingly, the lad probably was not doing anything wrong by recording the incident on his smartphone. Disciplinarians have every right to document and publicize the punishments they inflict—humiliation is part of what makes the system so effective, after all. It could be argued that the IOUs are part of the punishment for poor academic performance, so any complaint about that is unlikely to be well received, even if she knew the perpetrator's identity. However, he definitely exceeded what she offered, which could throw the whole IOU system into disarray. Maybe she could get him into trouble for that.

The situation is complicated by the fact that she does not know his intentions about the recording. Is it an attempt at ****, or a warning of the impending mortification she will experience when he releases it to the whole college? Does he maybe think she will enjoy watching it as much as he did and sent it in a weird attempt at flirting? Perhaps he simply wants her to know he will remember their meeting for ever.

Turning the matter over on her mind, the pretty black girl realizes that whatever she decides, she first needs to finish getting dressed, so she does, leaving the blindfold where she found it. Just as she is about to leave, she spots something on the floor, by the door. She almost passes by without looking closer, but the screwed-up ball of paper looks familiar and she stops to pick it up and unfurl it. Her spent IOU. Thoughtfully, she folds it and puts it in her bag. Together with the video, it is evidence that she was exploited by the student who redeemed the IOU.

Emerging from the ladies, she keeps a look out for anyone who could have been watching her, but the place is deserted, everybody still apparently at lunch. Layla needs to drop by her digs for a change of blouse, before grabbing a quick bite. She would love a shower and the chance to wash her hair, but there is not enough time until her afternoon schedule begins. Whatever she intends to do will have to wait until the evening, at the earliest.
