A test

"Good, very good" her teacher said and smiled. She put the contract away in her drawer. "Well then, I believe we will test your abilities straight away."

Jane nodded. "What am I to do Ms Steward?"

"The teacher, Mr Gordon, you know him?"

Jane shrugged. "Barely."

Ms Steward nodded. "It just so happens that me and Mr Gordon have a deal. I do not really enjoy teaching too much you see, especially grading, I do not have time for it with my duties for the order. So he lets me get away with obstaining from many of my duties. In exchange, I let him borrow the servant girl once in a while." Ms Steward smiled at Jane, there was a wicked look in her eyes. Jane realized suddenly what she meant, or she thought she did. "I, I thought that I would be performing duties for the order, not-"

"Will you refuse me this early servant?!" Ms Steward cut her off. Jane blushed. "No! Of course not, I, I was merely surprised."

Her teacher ignored her. "Well, it just so happens that Miranda, our last servant girl, has ended her contract about a month ago, and I have had to... serve Mr Gordon myself, wich isn't ideal. Therefore I want you to visit him at his office and introduce yourself."

Jane was chocked. "Miranda?! Do you mean Miranda Hopkins?" Miranda was in Jane's class, one of the most popular girls in school, and one of the prettiest. One time, Jane had overheard some of the boys talking about Miranda, about what they would like to do to her, it had made her blush. It had also made her slightly sad that nobody would be talking about her that way.

"Yes, Miranda Hopkins. Oh, before I forget, you are not to give out any secrets of the order to an outsider, understood?"

"Yes, of course but-"

"Questioning me again?"

"No! I just mean... will the principal really be, happy to see me... instead of Miranda?"

"Ah... yes, that point again. Fair enough. This is why I did not want to let you join in the first place, you do not have Miranda's 'talents'. However, there are ways around this problem. We are witches after all."

Ms Steward stood up and went to a locker in the corner of her office, she opened it and removed something from it. It was a ring. It was silver, thin, unremarkable. Jane stared at it as Ms Steward gave it to her. "This should do it. Try it on."

Jane put the ring on. At first she felt nothing, then she felt a strange burning sensation all over her body, or was it a shiver, either way it did not hurt much. Jane could barely take her eyes off herself in the mirror, but **** herself to do so. "Yes, Ms Steward."

"Good! Now go introduce yourself to Mr Gordon. And please, Jane, do whatever he tells you."
