A teacher from our old high school

Opening the door, I saw someone who I thought I would never see again. Our old history teacher from high school, Mr. Robinson. My mouth hung open in shock. He was old back then, and looked even older now, his stubble and long, uncut hair making him look even older than he was, which was somewhere in his sixties. He had been one of Sarah's main tormentors. Although he wasn't as persistent as my old classmates, his comments hurt her much deeper, and I had to console her more than a few times as she sobbed from some remark he made about her during class.

"Uhhh, Mr. Robinson?" I ask as my brain tries to catch up to what my eyes are seeing.

"Obviously. Now are you going to let me in or not?" Taking my stunned silence as an answer, he pushes his way past me into my apartment. "Thanks. I knew I could count on you. You were always one of my favorites." Despite how cruel he was to Sarah, I had always been one of his favorites, the two of us sharing a deep passion for history despite how he treated my friend.

"Are you here for something or..." I ask slowly, trying to figure out how he found me and why he is standing inside my apartment.

"I am actually. I lost my job, and I haven't been able to pay rent the last few months. When I saw your application in the landlord's office, I knew my favorite student Liam wouldn't let me down." At the look of concern, he adds quickly, "Just for a few nights while I figure something more permanent out."

Just then, Sarah comes out into the living room. "Liam, who was at the-" she cuts off her sentence, and her eyes open wider than mine were when I first saw him.

Mr. Robinson smiles and puts his hand out. "My name is Paul Robinson. I was one of your boyfriend's old teachers." Clearly, he doesn't even recognize her, given her recent transformation, as Sarah stands stock still in terror and shock.

Clearing my throat, I say, "Ah, Mr. Robinson, this is Sarah. You remember her from class right?"

Now its his turn to look surprised. "Sarah? Ginger Snaps the seat Sarah?" he asks incredulously. You can already see the tears forming in her eyes, the memories flooding back after years of working past them.

"Uhh, yeah. Mind if I talk to her real quick?" I take your stunned girlfriend into the bedroom and close the door.

"What the hell does he want?" she asks angrily

"Look, I know this can't be easy for you, but he needs a place to stay. Just for a few nights," I tell her, my words mirroring his. "Please? It would mean a lot to me."
