What to choose?
A stuffed dog toy
That could work... those dog toys can sometimes be mistaken as a regular stuffed animal. I just need to get one that isn't obviously for dogs, like the crinkly ones. Maybe one with a squeaker could still be an 'innocent' purchase if things go south.
A stuffed toy for her to think about, to tempt her to play with like a dog would. To get her to see me as someone who would take care of her like a pet. This could work.
I drive to the local pet shop and find something on the clearance rack, not because I want to be cheap, but because they don't have packaging on a lot of the things there. I don't want to lie to her, so much as bend the truth. I already have to pretend I'm not talking to a goddess with a magical phone app, so the fewer distortions of the truth, the better.
So an unboxed dog toy that looks like a normal stuffie fits the bill. I see a brown dog-shaped one, just to cover my bases that I thought she likes dog things. (She likes dog things very, very much, but that's for later, if all goes to plan).
The next day in class...
