Chapter 3
by
Cantalope
What do you see?
A strange setup
You frown in confusion. The next room is just as dilapidated as the first but the floor had been swept clean and the windows painted over. The only illumination comes from a projector on the wall next to you, which is currently lighting up a massive projector screen with some kind of psychedelic screensaver. A weathered but comfortable looking couch sat below the projector with two dazed-looking asian girls slouched across it. They stared blankly at the shifting colors on the opposite wall, completely unaware of your presence. Could these girls have been kidnapped? Were they going to be shipped off like your source had said? "Pssst! PSST!" You try to draw their attention but they don't even blink. Now that you look closer you can see they are wearing comically large headphones, they probably couldn't hear you even if you shouted.
Checking the corners of the room for cameras, you slip inside and approach the girls. They look like college students out for a night on the town and are completely enraptured by the swirling colors on the screen, not so much as blinking even when you wave a hand in front of their faces. It was like they were hypnotized or something. But that was silly. It was common knowledge that hypnotism had to be willing and it was easy enough to wake up the subjects. Aside from the revealing clothing they looked fairly respectable, it was difficult to imagine them being here by choice. You grab the shoulder of the girl closest to you and give her a shake. Nothing. They might as well be in a coma if their eyes weren't glued to the screen.
You look back at the swirling colors of the screen... Was there something you weren't seeing? It looked like the usual random pulses of color for a screensaver. Staring intently, you think you start to see a pattern after a few seconds but a wave of nausea makes you look away. They were probably ****. Or maybe, you think to yourself, It has something to do with the headphones they're wearing? You lean in close to try and pick up any escaping sound... there is a faint pulsing rythm, almost like a club beat. In a weird way it seems to synchronize with the swirls of color on the screen and the combination of the two makes your head spin... but at the same time you feel like the image becomes clearer with the music and the faint noise starts to sound almost like lyrics.
Do you continue to listen or move away?
