A strange nightmare?

When I regained consciousness, I found myself in the street Aurora and I fought. It was dark, way too dark. Like a black and unnatural fog was covering the city. Despite my enhanced sight, I could barely distinguish anything past a few meters.

Is it another nightmare?

Unlike my previous nightmares, this one seemed far more lucid. I was able to think clearly.

What the heck am I doing back here? I wondered, looking at my surroundings.

"Good evening, Edward..." I heard an all too familiar voice growl from the darkness.

When I turned to search for the source of the voice, I saw her, slowly crossing the deep fog and staring at me with pure hatred.

"Aurora?"

It was her, no doubt about it. She looked the same she did that night.

"Did you enjoy your first hunt as me?" She asked coldly. "Was the thrill of battle satisfying?"

"W-what?"

She came closer, her face inches away from mine. "You got lucky with that wendigo. Had he not smelled your own faint lingering scent, you'd be dead, and I'd be free from this fate. But unfortunately, it didn't happen."

I didn't understand what was going on. Why was Aurora in front of me, berating me? Was it my subconscious playing tricks on me?

"Was it fun using my skin and my memories to fool Yana and Elan like this?" She asked in a confrontating tone. "Did you like it? Oh, don't say anything, I already know the answer just from looking at you."

I glanced down at my body, confused, until I realised I was a perfect copy of Aurora, having her body and wearing the exact same clothes as her. "H-huh? Why do I look like you?"

"You can't possibly think of a reason, Edward?" She spat disdainfully. "Ever since you first saw me, you were craving to slither inside my skin. You love being me, to the point of even here taking my shape."

"I... I just had a crush on you, before, when I was still human..." I weakly justified myself.

"You stole everything from me!" She screamed, clenching her fists and gritting her teeth. "My skin, my memories, my whole life!"

I spoke back, a feeling of annoyance rising within me. "You didn't leave me a choice! I never planned to take your life, you **** me to after attacking me! I only wished to help those in need with my abilities, nothing more! I already punished my parents and would have continued with other corrupt assholes had you not tried to kill me without even allowing me to explain my goals!"

"I couldn't trust you, no matter what you might have said. And you're proving me right... You had a choice, you could have easily fled after defeating me with your strange ability, but you still chose to wear me. You can try justifying it with your superhero complex all you want, but you're just a perverted monster!"

I grunted, staring her in the eyes and resting my hands in my pockets. "Oh, I'm proving you right? Then just watch. The hunt earlier showed how useful my skinwalker abilities can be, I will use our combined skills to the fullest to protect those in need, as well as Yana."

Aurora snapped, punching me and making me take a step back. "Don't you dare call her that!!! What you did to her... I'll never forgive you!"

She tried to give me another punch, but I grabbed her fist before it connected. "I'm not asking for forgiveness. I did what I had to do, that's all. You brought this upon yourself when you tried to kill me. Your love for Yana is my love as well from now on."

"Shut up!" She screamed, trying to break free.

"You know deep down I will never hurt her, or anyone innocent. I will keep living as you would for the most part, hunting monsters that threaten humans. I'll be a better, more effective Aurora than you were. Not only do I have all your knowledge and training, but I am also faster, stronger, more resilient, and more resourceful." I said, releasing her hand and taking a few steps back.

She glared hatefully at me, holding her wrist. "You disgust me... I hope you die during your next hunt..."

I sighed and turned around. "I won't, because it would not only hurt my sister, but also Yana. I'll keep on living, for the two of us and for everyone we love." I then gave her a determined glance. "I won't let myself be killed, no matter what. Goodbye."

I started to walk away as Aurora kept staring at me, her fists tightly clenched, until everything became blurry and faded to black.
