Chapter 4 by RedeemerofDark RedeemerofDark

What's next?

A spider

Latrodectus Mactans, also known as a Black Widow spider, in a fairly small atrium, many of the friends Alina knew and held dear to her heart would not have taken the introduction to one of these very well. After all these are supposedly one of the most dangerous spiders in the world and a fearsome hunter, Alina hadn't had much experience with spiders herself but she was informed of a lot of debunked myths about them by Charles, the child of one of the zookeepers when she was younger. Specifically the ones that pertained to her fellow widow was that they don't exactly eat a mate out of some kind of sadistic desire or anything else of the sort, the only reason they do that is almost always bad luck; i.e a mate encountered her when she was hungry rather then being patient and the expected outcome occurred for the sake of her and her babies. The second is that whilst the venom of a Black Widow is no joke it is far from the most deadly venom in the world, and that Black Widows aren't particularly aggressive towards humans in any form of fashion. With that in mind she felt comfortable enough in order to bring its atrium up to her room and sitting it on her nightstand, where she can easily keep track of it in the morning and at night, allowing her easily remember it and its need for food since it had admittedly been a long time since she kept a pet of any kind if those old encounters could even be called "pets". Happy with its position she went out to the back yard, a smirk tugging at her lip as she searched for a juicy caterpillar or grub perhaps, who would've thought the promise of companionship from a fellow widow could make her feel so much better?

Truly it sounded quite silly, but something about them made her feel better, made her not feel alone and despite their rather monochromatic scheme she could already see more color in the world...that was probably a crazy thing to think but she couldn't help herself, she was happy to have gotten this discovery in the mail and she hoped her little friend would be happy to live with her. Speaking of...as she absentmindedly grabbed a particularly engorged earth worm she thought about what her little friend's name should be...how about...June. In commemoration of the month of both her husband's ****, but also of when they got married, a celebration of the good times and of the times having happened at all. She shook her head in contentment as she made her way back up, gently opening the atrium and dropping in the wriggling meal. "Don't worry little June, I vow to take good care of you, just as I hope you will vow to keep my house clean!" she said, her first attempt at humour in ages, what a grand way to start speaking again. Wait...she spoke again...she gasped, had it really been so easy? Her lips felt dry, she hadn't expected such things to simply unravel, granted she had to to properly bestow June with her name but...she smiled again, it appeared June was properly stuck in her life now, and Alina was in her web, for the first time in what felt like years, she actually had a reason to look forward to tommorow.

What else will be ensnared in June's web?
