Chapter 6
by Testytesterton
Who answers the door?
A snobby looking nerd.
A waifish wisp of a boy with blonde curly hair and coke bottle glasses opens the door. "H-hi, you must be..." he holds his finger to his temple, "Brian Brand. I'm Wendell Worthington the seventeenth. Come in." He has a superior air about him that seems entirely unearned and easily deflated, but you don't press it just yet. Instead, you follow him into the dorm.
"As I am sure you know, I hail from a long line of warlocks and unlike some we are all full blooded." he has to stand on his tippy toes so he can look down on you. You aren't the most strapping stud in school, but you are pretty sure you could wipe the floor with this mop headed muppet. That is, if he fought fair. You doubt he would so you hold your tongue for now.
"Now I want to make one thing clear from the get go. I am not your baby sitter. I have been entrusted to give you the lay of the land, not to make sure you don't end up the lay of the land." He tosses you a heavy tome, bound in some strange obsidian colored material you've never felt before. "Magik is basically a prayer said by anyone with a blood pact to the Old Gods. If you have enough willpower, you can perform any spell in that book. But beware...a simple reflection spell, a mute sigil, or a binding incantation can render you helpless."
You immediately open the tome and pore over it, but you can't make heads or tails over where the spells begin and end, or how to read them. Wendell the somethingteenth smiles smugly. "You didn't think it would be in English did you? So any normie could read it? Hmmph why not just put it on an app so you don't hurt your tongue pronouncing the words?"
You smile back, your tongue practically bleeding from how hard you have to bite it to keep from telling him off. You look back down at the tome and wish you could at least separate the spells. Suddenly your eyes glow green and you see text light up and you can see all of the spells as their own individual chunks. Wendell sputters, "That's impossi...I mean almost impressive. Some students have to be taught second sight. Not me, mind you, but I am surprised a half born was able to. Though good luck picking a spell."
His laugh is nasally and shrill and you would give anything to wipe the smirk off his face. You get a crazy idea. What if you picked a spell at random and fired it off? Maybe with the right focus you could show him you aren't to be messed with? But if you do, what spell should you pick?
Which spell do you pick, if any?
