A smuggler's den

The ladder leads down to a small passageway. You find that you can see perfectly well in the darkness, but even so there's not much to see, just a small tunnel carved out of the earth.

You follow the tunnel, walking through the cramped confines for what feels like hours, until you see the faint burn of lamplight and hear the lap of waters. You press on, and find yourself in a small underground cavern, dimly lit and occupied. You duck back behind a small rock outcrop before anyone can see you, and look around.

To your left is a small dock, little more than a pair of logs with planks attached, where a small rowboat is anchored. It holds a few crates, while several more lie on the pier itself.

To your right, another tunnel leads away into the darkness, and a makeshift cooking area has been set up just outside the tunnel entrance. Two boiling pots, a roasting spit and a counter make up the whole of its cooking ability.

And to your front is a cluster of people, the current occupants of this cavern, you'd surmise. Represented amongst them are people of several races and genders, though they're mostly female humans. They're dressed like pirates, not the swaggering captains in their lavish clothes and massive hats but the deck-swabbers, with bandanas and simple shirts, as well as a variety of knives, axes, shortswords and the like.

Two of them are duelling, a woman dressed in the finest clothes of all of them (she wears a long coat and several pieces of jewellery) is brandishing a sabre to ward off her opponent, a male Lizan with a red bandana and a dark blue shirt who's wielding a long knife and a baling hook. They've evidently been going at it for quite some time, the woman is sweating and breathing hard while the Lizan's scales are paling with exertion. The other five surround them, forming a rough ring of people.

As you watch, the Lizan steps forward, bringing his hook down in an attempt to ensare the woman's sword. If you're going to intervene, this would be the moment, because it doesn't look like they're both going to be breathing much longer...
