Chapter 3 by braunackerman1 braunackerman1

Grace reaches somewhere

A secluded building

Grace stumbled through the night. The moon shone faintly through the dense treetops, and Grace could barely make out her surroundings. Grace walked in a straight line, not sure where she going but sure that she would know when she got there.

The light was so faint that Grace almost missed it. A small dot of yellow light shone out from between the trees. Its light barely reached through the forest to Grace, but she could make it out nevertheless.

Grace was drawn to the light, to what it represented; an escape from the never ending forest she had wandered for days now. Grace was drawn to the light like a moth to a flame. She followed it without breaking eye contact. Stumbling over the root covered ground, Grace made her way to the light. As Grace got closer to the light, she saw the forest begin to thin, then open up into a clearing.

As Grace entered the clearing, she took in what was there. A small building, single story, made of grey brick with a black metal roof. The building had no windows, and only a single metal door. The building was surrounded by a chain link fence, the top spun with barbed wire. There didn’t seem to be any signs of human life in or around the building. Grace could now see where the light was coming from. A singular light was bolted above the door, shining out in front of it and into the forest.

Grace stood frozen for a moment, unsure of what to do. There was nothing special about the building, it looked like it had been abandoned for years. But still, it was the only thing Grace had found since she had regained her sanity; she was quite interested in this solitary building.

So, Grace approached the chain link fence. She wrapped her fingers around the cold metal and felt the freezing sensation spread through her hand. The cold only sharpened her mind further, and encouraged Grace to continue her journey. Climbing the fence sounded like a bad idea. The fence was atleast 20 feet tall, and the barbed wire sounded painful against her bare body. Grace circled the fence, running her hand on the cool metal as she walked. About half around the fence, Grace found a spot where a portion of the fence had come undone at the bottom. With a little bit of struggle, Grace managed to further undo it, freeing a piece large enough for her to squeeze under.

Grace shimmied under the fence and walked across the dark lawn to the building, the lone light shone down in front of the door. Reaching up, Grace knocked hard on the metal door.

“Hello?” Grace said, her voice hushed and horse from the recent disuse.

Grace waited, shivering slightly in the pale light in front of the door. Nothing happened. The door stayed sealed shut, and no noise came from inside. Disappointed, Grace turned to leave.

Grace didn’t hear the door open, but she felt the needle when it punctured her skin. Grace spun around, reaching wildly at the newfound pain in her back. In the doorway, Grace could see a figure, but her vision blurred their features. Grace collapsed on the ground and felt herself begin to slip into a haze.

Was the virus taking back control? Grace wasn’t sure. Fear shot through her body, both for herself and the person in the doorway. Grace wanted to scream at them to run and escape, that she couldn’t control herself. Grace could feel the dark part of her mind urging her to fuck them. Grace tried to **** some words out, but nothing came out. Then Grace blacked out.
