A regret from Rogue's past resurfaces
When PG returned to the Astral Plane, she was greeted by the sight of Rogue fiercely battling everything the Shadow King was throwing at her, most notably a horrifically twisted, massively corpulent version of herself. Having researched Amahl Farouhk and what happened to the people he'd managed to possess over the years, PG surmised that this was what would have happened to Rogue had Shadow King successfully taken over her mind.
"PG! Ya came back..." Rogue said breathlessly, her words full of relief and gratitude. "And not a moment too soon. I ain't sure how much longer I can hold out..."
"Of course I did. I was never going anywhere," PG answered.
Rogue nodded as a surge of confidence shot through her. "I know. But seein' ya here... makes me feel like I can win this thing."
"Oh, you will," PG answered as she flew into the fray, hitting the grotesque Rogue double hard with a mighty punch, shattering the construct and sending the Shadow King reeling. "I'll make sure of that!"
"You think you've won?" the Shadow King taunted as the environment around Rogue and PG warped and twisted. "I'm only getting started! I will break you!"
Rogue and PG found themselves on the front lawn of what looked to be a twisted, corrupted version of the X-Mansion. All around them, the X-Men, their friends, and their loved ones, lay defeated and broken, the horrific carnage making a mockery of Xavier's dream.
"What's this supposed to be?" an unimpressed Rogue asked. "You really think your illusions're gonna scare me?"
"This isn't an illusion, Rogue... it's a vision," the Shadow King hissed. "She never forgot."
"What the hell're you talkin' about? Who never forgot what?" Rogue asked, irritated.
"Perhaps your greatest regret," the Shadow King continued. "You took everything from her, remember?"
The color immediately drained from Rogue's face as she recalled what the Shadow King was alluding to. "Oh god... no..."
"Yes. Despite what she may have told you in the past, she hasn't forgotten or forgiven. And that hatred has festered over time. And once it reaches a breaking point..." the Shadow King paused, letting the implication of his words hang heavy in the air. "Well, why don't I let her give you a personal demonstration?"
PG and Rogue looked up to see a familiar figure streaking towards them, unbridled rage burning in her eyes. One of Rogue's greatest regrets -- one she'd thought she'd moved past.
Carol Danvers was still lingering in her mind, and she wanted ****.
